@Ravilious1942
A tribute to the work of British artist Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) & with it so many other things in the natural world around us.
Ravilious posts return tomorrow but alas lack of time means that daily posts won’t be possible anymore but you’ll get some wonderful artwork from the world of Ravilious & Co (inc the amazing Tirzah) every weekend. Enjoy!

It’s Eric Ravilious’ birthday today - he was born in Acton #OTD in 1903, although he spent his young life in Eastbourne after his family moved to #Sussex. It’s wonderful there are so many of us who continue to appreciate his work. Long may it continue!

As #SwiftAwarenessWeek wraps up, here are 4 ways you can help protect these special birds: Install Swift boxes or bricks. Grow wildflowers to boost insect populations. Log your sightings on Swift Mapper. Speak up for Swifts & share their plight. Every effort counts. 💙

Belle Tout Lighthouse, Eric Ravilious, 1939. The lighthouse is located overlooking Beachy Head in East #Sussex on the @SouthDownsWayNT. The original Ravilious artwork was sold at @ChristiesInc in 2015 and I believe it is now in a private collection.

There’s sunshine in Ravilious country at the moment so let’s have an appropriate Eric Ravilious wood-engraving from the 1930s.

Swifts are uniquely adapted for life on the wing... Tiny legs mean they're clumsy on the ground but once airborne their long, curved wings & forked tails make them seriously impressive fliers. And they are FAST - capable of speeds up to 69 mph! #SwiftAwarenessWeek
Ever noticed how the Downs shift with the light? Morning mists, midday shadows, golden evenings…the landscape is always changing. 📷 Caroline Meech 📍 Old Winchester Hill #SouthDowns #GoldenHour
