Statement by Taoiseach Micheál Martin on the EU-Israel Association Agreement
Joining several EU countries today to deliver a clear message to the 🇪🇺 Commission. We now urgently need proposals at EU level to effectively discontinue trade with Israeli settlements in the Occupied 🇵🇸 Territory. 🇮🇪 will bring forward our own proposals on this next week.

But we cannot allow the growing crisis to distract from the ongoing horror in Gaza. The humanitarian catastrophe unfolding there is unconscionable. Thousands of innocent children are starving, suffering, and dying. We must not and will not look away.
Now more than ever we must work to implement the two-State solution. Peace in the Middle East is possible and Ireland will continue to work with partners around the world who are committed to this goal. gov.ie/en/department-…

A year after the formal recognition of the State of Palestine, 🇮🇪, 🇪🇸, 🇳🇴, and 🇸🇮 reaffirm their unwavering commitment to a just and lasting peace. Our joint statement: gov.ie/en/department-…
One year ago, Ireland formally recognised the State of Palestine. We did so because we believe that the people of Palestine and the people of Israel both deserve to live in peace and security, side-by-side.
One year ago today, as Taoiseach, I was proud to announce Ireland’s recognition of the State of Palestine. We took that step in hope and conviction: that a two-State solution is the only path to a just and lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. My statement ⬇️
I am deeply shocked and horrified that the Israeli Defence Forces today opened fire on a group of diplomats visiting the town of Jenin. Thankfully, nobody was killed or injured.
I am shocked and appalled at reports that the IDF fired shots in the vicinity of a visit to Jenin today by a group of diplomats, including two Irish diplomats based in Ramallah. Fortunately, no-one was hurt. This is completely unacceptable and I condemn it in the strongest terms.
Today, a clear majority of EU Member States agreed on the need to send a strong signal to Israel to reverse course, to halt its military operations and to lift the blockade on lifesaving aid. Ireland has been leading at an EU level to reach this point. Now it’s time to act.
