Cell Biology lab at UTSW @UTSWNews. We study lipid droplets and the organization of metabolism in cells.
Important to celebrate trainee victories: excited to have @HollyMerta's paper out in @CellReports. We use TurboID sub-organelle proteomics to map the ER network. We discover calmin/CLMN, an ER-to-actin tether regulating focal adhesions & cell motility. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Beautiful weather and science at the 2025 GRC Molecular Membranes Conference.

Exciting new work from the Prinz lab examining a role for BLTP2 lipid transporter in cancer cell biology.
Excited to announce my publication from my research in the Prinz lab in Nature Cell Biology! 🌟 We've uncovered a new pathway regulated by the tube-like lipid transport protein BLTP2, which cancer cells utilize to control their plasma membrane fluidity. nature.com/articles/s4155…
What a terrific FASEB ER meeting! Exceptional science and community! ❤️ Plus we got to see sea turtles nesting on the beach and a spaceX rocket launch! Cool! #ERSRC
Gathering on beach to watch a rocket launch in Melbourne, FL during the FASEB ER meeting! #ERSRC

We’ve pioneered a disease-agnostic screening platform for aberrant biomolecular condensates—cellular structures linked to incurable neurological diseases. We screened genes and FDA-approved drugs that modulate disease-relevant nuclear condensates: biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…
Happy to see our highlight out in @CurrentBiology discussing new findings related to NADH and FSP1 compartmentalization in ferroptosis. Lead by two terrific postdocs @AMegarioti and Kirandeep Deol! 🤩 cell.com/current-biolog…
Excited to learn about the amazing endoplasmic reticulum at the FASEB 2025 ER meeting in Melbourne, FL! #ERSRC #organelles

We have a call for support that has gone out to European labs, to support FlyBase-UK. We're asking our colleagues from labs in the US other countries to wait for a similar call to them that will go out in the near future, to support the US sites. We thank you for your patience.
The cancellation of Harvard grants has put @FlyBaseDotOrg on life support. The Flybase grant is at Harvard and everything else is a subcontract. This community resource is absolutely essential! philanthropy.cam.ac.uk/give-to-cambri…
Exciting new NVJ findings from the Bohnert lab!
Our new preprint on metabolic adaptation of the nucleus vacuole junction NVJ is online! Big thank you to @MarieHugenroth and all authors! #MembraneContactSite biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Principal Investigator Mike Henne and researchers at @UTSWMedCenter have identified a protein that plays a key role in cell adhesion and movement using a novel method that gives a readout of which proteins are in specific locations within cells. Their findings could help…
Exceptional work from @rushika_perera identifies differential utilization of PCSK9 / cholesterol synthesis pathways and regulation of #ferroptosis as key determinants of pancreatic cancer metastasis. 🔥🤩 nature.com/articles/s4158…
We had a great kick-off of our Lipid Metabolism & Neurodegenerative Disease Mini-symposium! Many thanks to all speakers and attendees! #UTSW_science

This is sure to be a spectacular lipid droplet meeting!
The abstract submission deadline for the 2nd edition of our #EMBOLipidDroplets Workshop (21-26 September 2025) is approaching. Check out the agenda with an amazing lineup of speakers and submit your abstract before 10 June 2025! @EMBO @Co_Biologists meetings.embo.org/event/25-lipid…
We’ve engineered stable cell systems to induce lipid scrambling of the plasma membrane with active forms of TMEM16F. Scrambling alone causes vesiculation (🔵TMEM16F; 🟠PS/Annexin V). Let us know if you want to try the cells out. Preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
