🧠 🍄 ⚡️🐭 Now published in @NatureNeuro … Psilocybin enhances fear extinction by reshaping retrosplenial cortex ensembles—suppressing fear neurons, recruiting extinction neurons + boosting plasticity to enable behavioral flexibility nature.com/articles/s4159…
Excited to present my first first-author preprint from the Corder lab, with @EAHellerPhD and @flybottleescape – Psilocybin-enhanced fear extinction linked to bidirectional modulation of cortical ensembles. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/10
Rumors are swirling on UAB campus about potential cuts/layoffs with uncertainty surrounding @NIH funding, and now @SenKatieBritt & 13 other GOP senators publicly pushing OMB to release already-appropriated NIH funding britt.senate.gov/news/press-rel…
What’s better than a one-channel #Miniscope? 🥁 A TWO-CHANNEL Miniscope! Our new Miniscope2C is a dual-channel, open-source Miniscope that lets you record 2 fluorescent signals simultaneously in freely moving animals. Read the paper here: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… (1/9)
Double-blind placebo controlled trial (led by @UABNews faculty Dr. Timothy Garvey) demonstrates >20% weight loss with co-administration of cagrilintide (which targets amylin receptors) with semaglutide (which targets GLP-1 receptors). nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

Another adult-onset neurological disorder that appears to be caused by a virus. Shingles - VZV Alzheimer's - VZV, HSV Multiple sclerosis - EBV I've long felt that we should be looking at human brain sequencing data at reads that do not map to the human genome.
Excited to share the first 2(!) preprints from the Kebschull Lab. The amazing @HyopilKim developed MAPseq2 & POINTseq and used them to map the dopaminergic cells of VTA and SNc. tl;dr MAPseq2=10x cheaper, 4x better; POINTseq=easy cell type specific barcoding; DA neurons=very cool
So you want to change transgene expression: just change your promoter, right? Changing the promoter increases RNA and thus protein levels. What more could be happening? [1/n] Well, promoters don’t just set RNA levels; they uniquely transform how RNAs are transmitted into protein…
Our latest profile is here! Dr. Sasha Fulton (@SashaLFulton) studies cellular mechanisms of peripheral nerve damage repair and regeneration. Follow the link below to listen and learn more! storiesofwin.org/profiles/2025/… #StoriesOfWiN #WomenInNeuroscience
This was a really cool talk on both Corey’s personal journey to science and also development of cell types that populate the septum. Both were fascinating and full of great lessons!
DAY 2: 2025 NEURAL @UAB is proud to have our second Keynote speaker, Dr. Corey Harwell present his work on "Development and Functional Diversity of Neural cell types in the Septum." @UAB_NeuroRMS
Interested in learning more about the neuroscience underlying GLP-1 weight loss medications like Wegovy and Ozempic? Attend this FREE event featuring @UABNews expert Dr. Andrew Hardaway! Brain Chats are CNC-sponsored events at the Avondale library that are open to everyone!
Neuroscientists, please start consulting biostatisticians for your sequencing experiments. You can’t just copy and paste Seurat pipelines for everything.
As @emukamel and Yu point out, #methodsmatter. They are spot on here: nature.com/articles/s4158…
Meet 5 UAB neuroscientists whose research is advancing brain health: Drs. Linda Overstreet-Wadhiche, Alecia Gross, Kristina Visscher, & Farah Lubin of @UNeurobiology & Dr. Rita Cowell of @UAB_Neurology! 📰 buff.ly/TjNa6rr 📸: @maryefehr on Instagram
Really fun talk from @iaahmed123 to end our seminar series year at UAB Neurobiology @UNeurobiology. New uncaging and sensor tools are giving me hope we might understand the diverse roles of neuropeptides sooner rather than later!
Excited to share our new study: "Cold memories control whole-body thermoregulatory responses" by @Andrea_MZamora, @Akaron0884 & team at @tcddublin, in collaboration with @lynchielydia & @DrChristineAnnD @RyanLabTCD @Nature nature.com/articles/s4158…
The Altec/Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building is nearing completion, and we couldn’t be more excited to move into our new home!
Our latest study identifies a specific cell type and receptor essential for psilocybin’s long-lasting neural and behavioral effects 🍄🔬🧠🐁 Led by Ling-Xiao Shao and @ItsClaraLiao Funded by @NIH @NIMHgov 📄Read in @Nature - nature.com/articles/s4158… 1/12
Excited to see this @NIDAnews supported work led by @klbrida officially published! Kasey identified a marker of neurons that are responsive to the psychostimulant drug cocaine, and discovered that this marker is essential for cocaine reward. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
