Laboratory for chromatin and spatial neurobiology. Understanding how synapses and the nucleus communicate in the developing and diseased mammalian brain.
New preprint at the intersection of two fields. 3D genome: Mammalian chromatin folds into 10,000+ loops. Do loops have a role in gene expression? Alzheimer’s: Drugs targeting plaques have tiny effects on patient outcomes. Does chromatin change prior to classic AD hallmarks? (1/4)
I am excited to share our new work from @CreminsLab on genome’s structure-function relationship in post-mitotic human neurons and a neurological disease context (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…)! (1/n)
Now that our federal funding is restored, @ColumbiaBiochem can officially announce that @AkankshaThawani a super star in cryoEM and retrotransposons will be joining our faculty this winter! Welcome aboard Akanksha!
Nothing but love and respect from the Cremins family for Fran Dunphy. Incredible life, Incredible legacy in dedication and faithfulness to Big Five basketball in Philadelphia
A standing O for Fran Dunphy at this morning’s annual Coaches vs. Cancer breakfast at the Palestra.
Khalil Brantley definitely had the best message for Fran Dunphy
Introducing Neuropixels Ultra, a new probe with >10x site density: an implantable voltage camera capturing complete planar images of neurons' electrical fields in vivo! ⬆️ spike sorting yield, ⬆️ detection of small fields and ⬆️ cell type identification.🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
What’s genuine expertise? One of my mentors put it like this: No preparation. No notes. Can you stand in front of other experts and talk about the subject for hours and hold your own. Not BS. Not scripted. Deep knowledge that’s internalized.
Hannenhalli & Pevzner's legendary STOC-95 paper on sorting by reversals has won the 30-year Test-of-Time Award at STOC! 30 years!! A rare algorithmic gem from #compbio with lasting impact - I still use it to introduce genome rearrangements in my class. sigact.org/prizes/stoc_to…
Clock people: here's Gapdh in brown fat, every 2 hours for 2 days. It's rhythmic everywhere. Maybe not the best control.
A son. A pride and joy. Thank you @HaverfordSchool for investing in, loving, and nurturing our boy.

As the 2024-2025 School Year comes to a close, we are excited to share that our scientists and educators reached a record-setting 10,276 students this school year! Thank you to everyone who supported Ask Max. Together, we are making a positive impact on STEM education! To learn…
RNA structures are important too! In our latest Technology Feature, Michael Eisenstein explores how researchers are utilizing a growing toolbox of techniques to understand how RNA 3D structures inform their biological function. nature.com/articles/s4159…
Thank you Grace and Jordan McFadden Fellowship @UofSC for the investment you've made in me and your enduring support of my journey: sc.edu/study/colleges…
The New York Liberty won the WNBA Championship last year.
New York hasn’t won a major sports championship since 2011.
the EF1a promoter is slowly chromatinized as a plasmid! maybe that's why silencing is not observed until it's integrated. perhaps this masks the plasmid context masks its propensity to silencing when integrated
Plasmid-based reporter assays are the bedrock of regulatory genomics. But a basic question has gone unanswered for decades: Do chromatin architectures form on plasmids transfected into mammalian cells—and does it matter? We finally have answers. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Born the day we started the lab, our boy graduated from elementary school today. Congratulations son, you fill us with nachas and pride at the young man you are becoming.

First student hooded from the Galloway Lab! Congrats, Dr Wang! Excelsior! @nbwang22 @MITChemE
SABRINA IONESCU AGAIN 🤯 THAT'S FIVE 3PM IN THE FIRST HALF! GSV-NYL | League Pass
Even in uncertain times, wonder doesn’t flinch. It’s our compass pulling us toward curiosity, creativity, and the quiet thrill of seeing something for the first time. And it reminds us: #science & discovery is good. Here’s a moment that stirred mine: a newly designed PI(3,4)P₂…
Let's talk about the crowds filling out the 18,000 seat capacity - not only Fever and Liberty - but across WNBA teams. All it takes is giving them support, visibility, and investment. Financial returns abound to those who saw it and invested. A gem hidden in plain sight for years
the perfect fullcourt pass🙌
