South London #leaseholders win #servicecharge battle, hoping it can be used to by others fighting against unfair fees They were outraged that they were being asked to pay for a concierge service and garden meant for wealthier neighbours southwarknews.co.uk/featured/south…
80 years ago today…a Labour government came into power. It created the NHS & welfare state, adopted a radical programme of building houses, embarked on nationalisation & gave a weary nation new hope after the war. Real Labour values in action 🌹❤️
But when it comes to shielding corporate interests from lawfare @UKLabour seem very proactive…..
@mtpennycook - I have always been convinced that you’re gonna walk away from us. Remember it was people like us that backed you. Voted for you. Remember that.
That deal was a farce. I’ve been shocked by his inaction though.
@AlexJJNorris can’t say anything about Building Safety, because he knows if he does it will be lies. The £100m @CMAgovUK deal with the building industry when +£8bn stolen from innocent people over the last ten years tells you all you need to know about this govt.
Today we celebrate 80yrs since Attlee became PM. He transformed Britain for working people, and this legacy laid the foundations for Britain today - our NHS, welfare state, and homes for heroes. Those public services meant I could grow up to fulfil my potential. Labour legend🌹
Abolish the freehold-leasehold system of tenure in 🏴🏴and set 5.3mn leaseholders free from lives of servitude to absentee freeholders
More activities for leaseholders to fill our empty, languid, long 🌞 days... When will it end @CHazelgroveMP ? Yrs, months & days of battling costly, destructive, unproductive nonsense to keep roof over our heads. @FreeLeasehlders @LKPleasehold @NLC_2019
Calling leaseholders in Southampton Test! 📢 If you're a local leaseholder, you may have got a letter from me about our milestone Leaseholder Consultation, a major effort to improve the system for those suffering under a dysfunctional regime. 📝 Take part: satvirkaur.info/labour-leaseho…
This is a common problem in newbuild developments all over London. Agreements with local councils also mean that leaseholders pay for the upkeep of public amenities, in perpetuity.
We’re still living in homes we don’t really own. Still paying freeholders and agents we can’t sack. Still trapped. If this is reform, it’s not the kind we voted for. @FreeLeasehlders
Hmm… Is this government really serious about leasehold reform? Or it content to just go through the motions?
The very worst thing for cladding/BSA hostage leaseholders about the Labour government is the absolute loss of hope. When anger turns to electoral punishment they will only have themselves to blame.
Clement Attlee nationalised Rail, he nationalised Steel making, he nationalised Power and Fossil Fuel, he built record numbers of Council Houses and he nationalised Healthcare founding the NHS. All in 5 years, starting with record levels of debt.

Council should read the CMA report which highlights significant concerns regarding management of shared amenities on housing estates. The report identifies issues of high and unclear management fees, lack of transparency, and inadequate information.

They were also warned of “regulatory risk” when investing. Literally the risk that regulation / legal changes reduce the return you can generate from the investment.
No "institutional investor" or "asset manager" bought into onerous ground rents without calculating the risk involved. They probably enjoyed the thrill of thinking they were "getting one over" on their fellow humans. They deserve to lose.
Leaseholders stitched up again — now with summer timing to dodge scrutiny. Delays = damage. Delay = despair. We see you, government. We’re not amused — and we won’t forget. @FreeLeasehlders
🚨 NEW government delays on the leasehold front, conveniently confirmed the day Parliament was closing for summer hols 🚨 The governing powers are confused. And leaseholders aren’t amused. @e_casalicchio has the scoop in Playbook this evening. politico.eu/newsletter/lon…
Despite your attempts to scupper the bill at the 11th hour, it was enacted. It's a bit odd for someone in a "democratic" institution to be championing this spurious challenge to democracy.
Look who’s weighed in. He knows many of his reforms are being slowly but surely abandoned. LAFRA was far from perfect. But it was something to build on.
