(1/14) Ever wonder why meteorologists always use words like "chance" and "scattered"? To understand why we often speak in this "probabilistic" space, you first need to understand a bit on how weather modeling and forecasting works, and how we forecast the weather in the...

Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, a couple of hundred years ago, greenhouse gas forcing - mainly from burning fossil fuels - has more than doubled. Meaning that the ability of the atmosphere to trap heat has significantly increased. Thanks @LeonSimons8 for the graphic!
Did you know weather satellites can detect large wildfires on the ground? In addition to the smoke plume on visible satellite channels, thermal imaging can detect the intense heat of wildfires from above. This is an animation of the Ocean County #JonesRoadFire Tuesday afternoon.
Yesterday, @NOAA’s #GOESEast 🛰️ monitored the rapidly growing #JonesRoadFire in Ocean County, NJ. The satellite is able to detect the fire’s intense heat signature and track the large smoke plume. According to @NJDepForestFire, the blaze has consumed 11,500 acres, and prompted…
