I don't usually do this but please read and share this DNS story if you can. I think it's important. Govt/DWP want to introduce significant changes to #UniversalCredit through the UC bill, while refusing to release vital evidence re flaws in the system: disabilitynewsservice.com/race-against-tโฆ
Some actual facts: โข France has 25% of their population classed as disabled. โข 30% of the Spanish population is disabled. โข 30% of the German population is disabled. โข In the U.K. its 24%. โข The European average is 27%. euronews.com/health/2024/04โฆ consilium.europa.eu/en/infographicโฆ
No, we need to ask why 24% of the UK population is disabled compared to only 11% in France and 9% in Germany and Spain
This is a paragraph in @vickyfoxcroft's resignation letter than isn't getting much attention, but it is extremely important. The only way to really understand the lives of disabled people and those who are chronically ill is to educate yourself about it...or become disabled. Iโฆ
.@jrf_uk has added this constituency data on enhanced/standard rate PIP recipients at risk of losing out to our data dashboard (also shows breakdown by health condition) - select constituency from drop-down menu on chart here: jrf.org.uk/social-securitโฆ theguardian.com/politics/2025/โฆ
Trussell Trust has said that @UKLabour welfare cuts wont just push people into poverty, but into the severest form of hardship. When the Tories wanted to cut ยฃ20 from welfare @Keir_Starmer attacked them. Now in power he wants to cut ยฃ5k to ยฃ12k a year from the most vulnerable.
Shame on Labour! 1.6m people projected to lose vital PIP daily living support. These cuts are callous & dishonest. They will push disabled people into hospitals/care homes/coffins, not into non existent jobs. #DisabilityRebellion #TaxTheRich #TakingThePIP #StopTheCuts

Work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall has refused to apologise after repeatedly misleading MPs by suggesting that her planned cuts of billions of pounds to personal independence payment were linked to supporting disabled people into work. disabilitynewsservice.com/kendall-refuseโฆ
The DWP very quietly published a series of damning disability benefits related reports showing that additional work coach support made hardly any difference getting disabled people into work. benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/dwp-burieโฆ
New DWP research gives a clearer picture of why PIP claims have been rising than government & media rhetoric about the need for cuts People with complex poor health, driven in part by financial hardship to seek additional support to meet their basic costs gov.uk/government/pubโฆ
The DWP have responded to my FOI request regarding ages of PIP claimants (and the proposed new 4 point rule). I've submitted a similar FOI re ESA and LCWRA claimants, ages and numbers not meeting the 4 point PIP rule. I'm still awaiting the DWP response re ESA and LCWRA.
The Labour government has launched a new cost-cutting drive aimed at Access to Work, which insiders fear could destroy the scheme and lead to disabled people being forced to quit their jobs. disabilitynewsservice.com/second-wave-ofโฆ
Excuse me for focusing on mental health claimants for a moment but 23% of PIP recipients with psychotic disorders as primary condition would lose eligibility if the evil 4+ rule goes through. This is incredibly dangerous. Another important FOI, this time from Benefits & Work.
This is the other DWP FOI which details the PIP assessment change impact on LCWRA cohorts (& PIP impact): โก๏ธ 80% of UC Health claimants (LCWRA & LCWRA+PIP) would lose ALL ENTITLEMENT โก๏ธ 2.5m Total UC Health claimants โก๏ธ 2m are without PIP or with PIP but score < 4 points = 80%
The DWP have responded to my FoI request. Their figures indicate that 87% of clamants currently receiving PIP daily living component at the standard rate, and 13% of claimants receiving the enhanced rate, are likely to lose their entitlement if the "score 4" changes go ahead.
Still think this is really about work โ๏ธ Timms now saying Access to Work scheme is unsustainable & wants employers to bear more of the cost of reasonable adjustments in the workplace. Complains about high level of demand. Itโs what disabled ppl NEED to be in work. ๐คก๐ก
Here's proof that when ministers say they had to cut disability benefits cos 'welfare spending' was spiralling out of control, they are lying. Even before the cuts, it was stable. It's an answer to a Q from LibDem @MartinWrigley by minister @StephenCTimms: questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questiโฆ
1 If disability reforms are about getting people in to work, why are they all financial and eligibility reforms? 2 How does cutting an in-work benefit PIP help people get in to work? 3 How does cutting the โcannot work at allโ rate help the โmost needyโ? #DisabilityBenefits
โCall after call we are hearing from disabled people who simply donโt know how they will copeโ Citizens Advice, Mind & us at Scope all have seen massive increases in calls & inquiries about benefits since the green paper last week #DisabilityBenefits independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-nโฆ
