Not exactly something you would want to be known for as No. 1 in the nation. Solutions? Invest in public transit such as dedicated bus lanes, rail expansion (more infill stations, extended lines, and more service), and so forth.
According to @ConsumerAffairs, the DC area has dethroned Los Angeles for having the worst traffic in the nation. They say the DMV's average commute time is now 33.4 minutes vs. 30.5 in Los Angeles. In 2024 DC was number 2.

We love a non-piecemeal approach too! That’s why we proposed structural fixes to tax code: a business activity tax to close loopholes on wealthiest businesses paying no tax in DC & a land value tax to fund WMATA. Tax capital gains on the top 3% to fix safety net holes for FY26!

The dedicated bus lanes in Baltimore have shown all of these benefits. I was talking to a veteran @mtamaryland bus operator this morning who said that the red lanes were the best thing we've done for bus service.
