For the fourth time since 2019, the Metro Blue Line stations of Franconia-Springfield & Van Dorn Street are closed as part of a shutdown. They are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, then the shutdown will move to parts of the Green Line for almost the entire month of August. #wmata
Taking a Metro train from good old Forest Glen, does anyone know what makes this station unique among Metro stations? The video provides a hint. #wmata

Today’s “Air Traffic Control Modernization Summit” on Capitol Hill. After January‘s tragedy near DCA, political & industry leaders agree modernization needs to be a priority. Congress recently appropriated $12.5 billion to the FAA for it, but I’m told much more needs to be done.
I’ve been a reporter 25 years & have covered many disasters, but I’ve never seen anything like the massive volunteer effort going on in Texas right now. So many people abandoned their daily lives & rushed to help after the flooding. There are a lot of truly good people down here.
I’m told the Guadalupe River rose to about where I’m standing on July 4. If you look across, you can see how much damage it caused even far from its banks. Today we spoke with search crews who have a vast, difficult area to cover as they look for the remains of those who died.
This is Highway 39, the road along the Guadalupe River that goes to Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, where hundreds of girls were staying when the flood came early morning July 4. The camp is at the end of the video. Most of the girls evacuated, but sadly some did not get out in time.
For the first time I’m watching the DC fireworks from Long Bridge Park in Arlington. Easy to get to and not insanely crowded.
Metro is now free to ride for the rest of the night! This is the moment at exactly 5 o'clock the gates swung open at the Smithsonian station. Stations will stay open until 2:00 a.m. Not just Metrorail, but Metrobus and MetroAccess are also free for the rest of July 4. #wmata
