System is so broken: - researchers write papers no one reads - reviewers don't have time to review, shamed to coauthors, use LLMs instead of reading - authors try to fool said LLMs with prompt injection - evaling researchers based on # of papers (no time to read) Dystopic.
Since most researchers at major ML conferences are at most partial experts for the domain, in particular with respect to the mathematical foundations, nitpicking is all they can do ... #sadly
I’d add that reviewers should focus on why a paper should be accepted, rather than why it should be rejected. This focus leads to more interesting and ambitious work appearing at the conference.
