Pavitra Muralidhar
@pavitra451
Assistant professor in E&E at UChicago, interested in sex determination, sexual selection, and genetic conflict!
New preprint out on @biorxiv! I propose a model for the stability of sex chromosome systems based only on the operation of stabilizing selection on polygenic traits. This will be a short thread on the main results 1/ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
New paper with @smishra677 ! Maybe it will bring you some joy given all this (waves arms around). "Estimating recombination using only the allele frequency spectrum" 1/2 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
I don't use this platform much anymore, but I'm happy to share our work on sexual selection and the genomics of speciation in barn swallows. Thanks for reading and sharing, if of interest! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
New paper with @snaild_it❗️ You can use paralogs to reduce long-branch attraction! This will be especially helpful when there are no extant taxa that can be sampled to break up these branches. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
And here is part 2 of the @MyBioTechniques feature by Beatrice on our recent work on genetic and oral histories in Southwest India (cell.com/hgg-advances/f…).
In Part one, we learned about the challenges of ancient and modern DNA research and the techniques @MaanasaRaghavan (Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Genetics within @UChicagoBSD) uses to collect samples and sequence them. Now, Part two highlights the work…
Delighted to share that our paper on discovering selective sweeps with haplotype statistics in aDNA is now out in Nat. Comm! Wonderful collaboration with @vagheesh, @devpandeyay, and @MarianaHarr.
Thrilled to share that the first project from my PhD is published in Nature Communications (@NatureComms) ! 🎉 We explored Holocene European aDNA to uncover how selective sweeps have been obscured by neutral processes like drift and admixture. Read more: nature.com/articles/s4146…
I'm recruiting students / postdocs to join my new lab at the University of Rochester for Fall 2025 onwards! If you're interested in phylogenetic comparative methods, genome evolution, and/or computational biology, please get in touch! More info: mhibbins.github.io
Check us out! #ASHG24
#ASHG24 make your way to today’s Novembre lab posters 3015 (label free reference matching, @LukeAnderTroc) 3016 (rare variant discovery, @maggiecsteiner ) and 4041 (impacts of multigeneration shared environments, @mkiravn) to see some great science!

Highly recommend checking out this opportunity to join Matthias’ group! This would be perfect for someone looking to develop innovate methods in population genetics and genomics, engage w like minded colleagues, and work w a leading expert in the field :)
I am looking for a postdoc to work in theoretical population genetics. We focus on theory and methods for inferring demographic histories and selection using modern and ancient genomic data. Come join our amazing community in Chicago. More info here: steinrueckenlab.uchicago.edu/files/2024/11/…

Don't miss out working with one of the best and kindest scientists I know!! Neil Rosser’s lab at the University of Miami is currently recruiting graduate students interested in the evolution of tropical biodiversity rosserlab.github.io/people.html#re…
I am interested in recruiting PhD students in the area of plant ecological genetics! Potential topics include ecological genomics in Arabidopsis, morning glory, or ragweed; plant-microbe interactions; or new topics at the intersection of quant gen and pop gen.
PhD and MSc application portal @eebtoronto opens tomorrow Nov 1! Check our outstanding faculty and research for open positions! Toronto is a great place to be eeb.utoronto.ca/education/grad… eeb.utoronto.ca/people/faculty/ eeb.utoronto.ca/research/

I'm looking to change my career path and am quite excited about exploring jobs in biotechs in the Bay Area (or remote). I'm very keen to start a career that offers stability so my partner and I can finally live in the same state. Does anyone know of organizations that are hiring?
our second session of the q&a panel series is in a few weeks! this one will focus on the technicalities and tacit rules of applying to phd programs. open to anyone, but focus will be on biology programs. please share widely with your networks of potentially interested folks ✨
come join UChicago’s E&E PhD students in a casual discussion around what a PhD entails and how to figure out if it’s a good choice for you! anyone who is vaguely or actively considering the idea of getting a PhD in biology (or specifically ecology & evolution) is welcome!
The UC Davis Center for Population Biology postdoctoral fellowship is now being advertised. This is a great opportunity to come join our wonderful community of Evolution & Ecology here at Davis. Please RT cpb.ucdavis.edu/cpb-postdoc-fe…
