Some common sense in an ever more litigious and risk fearful world.
As I've said here before, we do not prevent suicide by "assessing for safety." That's a lawyer's worldview, or an administrator's We prevent suicide by creating a meaningful human connection where patients feel seen, heard, and understood in a relationship where they matter
Justin, stop demeaning people with mental illness. Psychiatry isn’t about taking power away—it’s about refusing to leave people to suffer in silence. You wouldn’t tell someone with a shattered leg to “walk it off,” so why treat trauma or psychosis like a mindset problem? Telling…
Psychiatry survives only by endlessly repeating its core mantra: “You have no power to heal yourself. You cannot change your thoughts and feelings. You need our interventions and drugs.” It’s the exact same mechanism by which NGOs keep developing countries in dire poverty.
This is not how a competent psychotherapist would conduct themselves. A shame you had that encounter but lets not dismiss a whole profession with the rigidity and dogma of a single encounter.
I once thought therapists were far preferable to psychiatrists. But many are just as eager to pathologize you. One would scrunch up her face and say “where did THAT come from?” whenever I voiced an opinion she didn’t like. In the end, it’s about compliance, not healing.
To those who entrust their therapy to AI AI answered definitively that this guitarist was Glen Campbell. Choose carefully when selecting a skilled therapist with tens of thousands of clinica hours, personal therapy and robust supervision or an algorithm.....
The dude never played in a rock ‘n’ roll band… Yet he could play stairway to Heaven better than Jimmy Page, Gimme Shelter better than Keith Richards and welcome to the jungle better than Slash…Never leave this man out when you talk about greatest guitarist of all time… He…
I wish there was a directory of therapists proven to have basic competency with frame, neutrality, therapeutic alliance, and formulation.
Well this is a state of affairs that leaves me a tad confused. Dr James Davies and I interacted on a matter we agreed upon and I do not want to miss that he engaged honestly and respectfully. I really valued this. He then liked my post in our last interaction and then blocked me?

In this current era, we are far more interested in altering the particular individual who is driven into pain & suffering, than in collectively altering the social realities that have driven them there.
Women’s Health is under a direct attack here, via the denial of #postpartum #depression The Sedated author claims that postnatal depression is *not* a thing. It’s fine to say such things when you don’t have to give birth to babies after 9 months gestation.
Perhaps it is possible for the mother to feel sad/depressed irregardless of whether there is a lack societal community care. That the feelings be explored from their experience. Maybe, just maybe we do not have to be invested in one team or another in our stance FOR THE CLIENT.
Most real life villains cast themself as the hero of their own story.
I feel supervision has somewhat gone the way of therapist training by institutes. It is seen as a moneymaking venture. Sadly my institute now offers supervision training and accreditation to therapists with only 2 years (no specification of client hours) experience. Shocking!
Clinical supervision used to be the heart of psychotherapy training—regular meetings with a trusted, expert teacher/mentor to discuss your clinical cases on an ongoing basis Now often reduced to just an administrative role. Did you collect intake forms? Finish your notes?👇
In a change the advertised programme, we're going somewhere I've never been before tonight: the PC Engine! A list of games provided by Kara Jane - I am expecting a fair amount of pain 😆 Join me on twitch at 8 o'clock BST to see how I get on.
Just to be clear I am still streaming tonight, just dont know what yet.
Sorry everyone, going to have to shelve the light gun stream - seems my screen is too small for a proper play (serves me right for having one quick go of Missile Ground Zero and declaring it fnie)

Nearly all problems treatable by psychotherapy are forged in the context of our relationships We wound others and are wounded by others Humans, not machines What gets broken in human relationships must be repaired in human relationships
My first Substack (full text below)
Seen on a FB counsellor's page. "Posting with client's permission and seeking strategies for dealing with anxiety beyond talking" FFS. I really should not punish myself by going on these forums. I need to explore my masochism I reckon!!
Reaccreditation completed again. I normally do not give it much thought but this time I feel extra satisfied for some reason.
BetterHelp stating "Change your therapist whenever you want to" That is not psychotherapy. By all means change if they are bad and not helpful for sure. However, issues arise in the psychotherapy relationship that mirror the client's other relationships. This then IS the therapy.
Never has a psychotherapy organisation been more inappropriately named than 'BetterHelp" Nothing about it is better and I am not entirely sure just how much psychotherapeutic help occurs. Yet the sad thing is that this is being marketed as bespoke therapy.
Can any1 suggest any quality research papers/articles on autism spectrum disordersthe like, I work with a cohort of young adults and although a small number, I find the labelling isn’t always helpful in some cases. But my knowledge is limited hence the request for papers! Thanks!
