SEND matters. The views expressed here are my own
Retain legal right to assessment and support in education for children with SEND - Petitions petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7110…
Didn't take long did it? Time to put a director in the dock at Crown Court. Convict and sentence to time inside would soon see a change in behaviour from water companies. Just my opinion on this.
Let’s try and keep people aware of the plight of our children. They matter. #SEND
Meanwhile @carriegrant1 has done an excellent accompanying piece on how the key to meaningful reform of SEND is "a mindset change in understanding neurodivergence and disability" inews.co.uk/opinion/uk-has…
I couldn't agree more Rachel. Let's hope one day you become Chancellor so those on PIP will be denied no more.
Unacceptable of the Gov't to change goalposts for PIP, denying up to 160,000 people vital support channel4.com/news/governmen…
Well said ⬇️⬇️
Or you could stop using disabled children and petrified parents as a political football and stop skirting the issue. The vague wording around legal rights to support is doing untold damage. Be explicit about your plans #SaveOurChildrensRights
Wd b more accurate if the report showed Witherslack average costs instead of vilifying all inde schools meeting SEN needs . There r some inde schools making good provision at modest / LA comparable costs , & then there r others who are venture capitalists not providing good
For-profit, foreign-owned special school provider Witherslack Group’s post-tax profits were up by 28% in a year to £45m. LAs must be able to set up their own schools, maybe with other LAs. And the Government MUST limit profits made from public money schoolsweek.co.uk/abu-dhabi-owne…
We entirely agree with this letter from @sos!sen It is deeply problematic to limit engagement to organisations reliant on funding from the Department for Education. facebook.com/share/p/14MZEJ…
So why not improve support as a priority? There is no need for any change to the law or major reforms to achieve that.
Task is to define inclusion. It isn’t children with SEND in a unit separate to main body of a school but taught alongside others perhaps in a class next door, & certainly not in a corridor. School numbers are falling so instead of closing them, create smaller schools
What proportion of representation was there on the consultation for children who are, or have previously been looked after?
The work by Professor Andy Bilson, Professor Luke Clements, Dr Fiona Gullon-Scott and Cathie Long and many more, has been groundbreaking and pivotal in validating this industrial level abuse by the current system. No one is benefitting from narratives of blame, shame or fear.
They are doing Absolutely nothing! We river swim, and its no longer safe. The only swimming that's free for the family, and its full of sĥìŧ. Seaside an hour away, and in the same mess!
Those of us who grew up under Thatcherism, but didn't shove our noses into the Privatisation Trough all warned of these times ahead. We told you so doesn't cut it, this culture of private profit above life has to end.
So, to set the record straight, we’ve put together a list of a few things an EHC plan IS NOT - you can read this in our latest blog. 3/5 🔗 ipsea.org.uk/blog/ehc-plans…
A lot of what’s been said about EHC plans is simply wrong. And it’s not just unhelpful - it distracts from what the government must hear: that the issue with the SEND system is non-compliance with the robust legal framework. 2/5
An EHC plan is issued when it is necessary and is designed to make sure a child or young person has the legal right to an education which meets their individual needs. 🔸 Legal rights are vital - and we must protect them. 5/5 #SaveOurChildrensRights saveourchildrensrights.org.uk
So, what is an EHC plan? An EHC plan is.... A legal document which sets out the child or young person's individual SEN, the individual provision they require to meet those needs (and no more but certainly no less) and the aspirational outcomes expected for them as a result. 4/5
At IPSEA, we're used to people making all sorts of rash statements about SEN and EHC plans, but even we have been surprised by the extent of misinformation we have seen shared and in the press recently. So let's clear some things up...🧵 1/5
yes, when it comes to "creating anxiety" breezily mentioning you're thinking of ditching EHCPs then not denying it when questioned, is right up there. We didn't light the fire...
Education ministers looking for the cause of the anger they have stirred up on EHCPs “need look no further than one EHCP for the cause of such anger. ‘What Amy dislikes…included ‘being ignored.’” lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-and…
