Personally I’m not “going private” as such; but I am using ChatGPT to diagnose issues, then ordering medicines from fly-by-night online pharmacies. Activity like mine won’t show up in the official stats; so it’ll be a long time before govt reacts.
we now have a whole generation of people who have never had good treatment from the NHS. as a result, young people opting more and more to go private where they can i simply don't think the typical "don't change the NHS" campaign strat will work any more if this is the reality
Banning a UK Labour Party politician from visiting the USA isn’t going to have much impact, alas. They’re instinctively anti-American anyway. If you want to make a difference, ban his wife from shopping on Amazon or using Instagram.
On behalf of several U.S. companies, @byrnestorm wrote a letter to the White House today requesting urgent diplomatic assistance to stop the OSA from harming Americans. The firm also asked the State Dept to ban Peter Kyle from the country. x.com/BenBarryJones/…
I disagree: by IP-blocking the country, they’re doing the government’s dirty work for them. The UK doesn’t need to build their own Great Firewall of China if companies willingly block themselves.
So the main thrust of the UK Online Safety Act kicks in today. So far, however, every attempt by the UK to enforce it - vs four separate US social websites - has resulted in the websites flipping the UK the bird and IP blocking the country. Not very successful
The placards are from a group called SUTR Total funds: £1,163,527 ~80% of income comes from grants provided by - The National Lottery - Bristol City Council They employee 29 full time activists to protest anyone against the state, funded by the state for the state.
“SAY IT LOUD SAY IT CLEAR, REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE” “NO BORDERS, NO NATION, STOP DEPORTATION” “WE ARE WOMEN WE CAN FIGHT WE DON’T NEED THE FASCIST RIGHT” “SAVING CHILDREN’S YOUR DISGUISE, YOU ARE NAZIS ORGANISED!” Some chants from SUTR at the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf
It’s purpose is suppression of the people
The Online Safety Act was never about protecting anyone.
A month from now, we’ll have forgotten about the porn-blocking Online Safety Bill. This paragraph is from Dominic Cummings’ latest substack. He isn’t writing about the bill; but we’re all guilty of moving on to the next hot topic too quickly. dominiccummings.substack.com/p/a-talk-on-re…

This is what they took from us.
95 percent of Right Wing nostalgia is just a picture of a woman with unbelievable honkers captioned, “This is what they took from us 😔”
We don’t need massive detention facilities if thousands are being flown out every day. Illegals would be rounded up and put directly on the next available flight, no time for detention.
We should build a specialised deportation airport, capable of removing thousands and thousands every single day - adjacent to significant detention facilities. Publish the daily removal number - the deportation dashboard. Send a message. Come illegally, you WILL be deported.
Disappointed that X/Twitter has chosen to yield to the UK government’s dumb laws.

A lot of older women holding banners here. My theory is that pro-migrant views are just another form of female intrasexual competition. “We’re jealous of younger women’s attractiveness and sexual freedoms, so we’re going to make their lives a misery by importing rapey men.”

Something important about this story that I haven't seen anyone else mention is that Britain's idiosyncratic planning laws effectively allow politicians to gerrymander their electorates at will, which is clearly what local Labour councillors and the Labour MP are doing here. 🧵
The big porn sites are now restricting UK users, but a ten second search online revealed plenty of sites which are still freely available to anonymous users. These sites tend to be less scrupulous in other areas too, so the govt should be careful what they wish for.
From today, government wants anyone accessing pornography to turn on their webcams and have their site of choice scan their face to gain entry. The irony is teenage boys will just use VPNs and avoid creepy face scanning altogether. It's older men who will end up being sextorted.
“The total amount of gas used is divided between each property, regardless of how much they use.” Socialism in practice. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Similar situation in Britain, though I’m not sure we actually deport anybody.
Germany just deported 81 Afghans, mostly convicted criminals. Meanwhile, since the beginning of 2024 (see link below), 34,000 migrants who claimed asylum in Greece have been allowed to fly to Germany and *also* claim asylum there, although this isn't supposed to happen.
What would happen if we stopped housing illegal immigrants? Would they sleep rough in tent cities? Would they suddenly find friends & family? Would they illegally let (or sub-let) from unscrupulous landlords? All of the above?
Below are the maximum prices we’ll be offering per MWh of power generated from new wind and solar projects, and these prices are guaranteed for the next 20 years. Last year the average price for gas was about £75/MWh. And we can turn on gas whenever we want; solar and wind…
It's sad how migration policy (or lack) of trickles down into making every other good faith policy unviable. I broadly support the renters' rights package. In principle, landlords shouldn't be able to just evict people. But introducing hurdles to solving situations like this just…
Uncontrolled mass migration is turning Britain into a dysfunctional favela.
