We're in a weaker spot for a future recession. OBBBA makes biggest cuts ever to Medicaid & SNAP, programs that are automatic stabilizers. As incomes fall, more people qualify for health coverage and food assistance, helping them and our economy recover. americanprogress.org/article/shifti…
Just a thought: dropping this unprecedented & extreme cost-shift policy altogether would be a Byrd Rule-compliant way to shield Alaska from its immense harm without creating a perverse incentive for states save themselves millions by making as many payment errors as possible.
This reworked SNAP carveout for Alaska + Sen. Murkowski has survived the parliamentarian Rs rewrote it as a formula temporarily exempting high payment error rate states - giving them more time to comply with cost share Dems livid Rs exempting more states while hitting others
why Nancy Pelosi wants Congress to "throw a punch. for the children," explained here by @kennedy_andara and Kyle Ross of @amprog americanprogress.org/article/the-on…
Today's number (+147K) shows steady job growth; however, Trump’s tariffs and weakening consumer spending threaten to slow investment. An inopportune moment for Congress to pass a budget bill that kills jobs, guts basic needs programs, and adds $3.4 trillion in deficits. Why...?🧵
JUNE’s #JobsReport just dropped 📈📉 Here are key things to know. A 🧵:
2/ There are signs of cracks in current economic conditions, though. Employment is falling in industries with the highest exposure to the administration's tariffs.
95% of people who lost coverage when Arkansas instituted "work requirements" had jobs. You have to look at what policies *do*, not what they are *called*.
Rep. Andy Harris: "Look, if you're able-bodied without dependents and you choose not to work, well, you shouldn't be on a public welfare program. That's the bottom line ... you should be off the public dole. Yes, you will lose your Medicaid coverage. Get a job."
Federal employment has dropped 70k, or about 2.3%, since January amidst DOGE cuts Keep in mind that workers on severance/paid leave are still counted as employed here, so this undercounts the number of jobs lost
One flag is that the long-term unemployment rate continues to creep up - not at scary levels by any means, but again consistent with other metrics suggesting that finding a job is harder now than it was a few years ago
How many people will lose health care in YOUR state under Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill"? • Alabama – 219,803 • Alaska – 39,989 • Arizona – 365,984 • Arkansas – 158,745 • California – 2,368,466 • Colorado – 240,953 • Connecticut – 86,580 • Delaware – 54,957 • Florida –…
Trump's tariffs are here and they're already surging prices at budget stores like Walmart. How does Trump expect us to pay for this?
New state fact sheets show how the House Rs' extreme budget plan would cut food & health care for millions while delivering bigger tax breaks to the wealth — forcing families, veterans, seniors, & others in every state to bear higher costs & more red tape. cbpp.org/research/state…
One of Sen. Ernst's constituents points out that people are going to die if Republicans' cuts to Medicaid go through. Ernst's response? "Well, we all are going to die." Republicans know exactly what they are doing—all so billionaires can get another tax cut.
Most voters don't have a college degree, yet too many elected officials struggle to represent their interests. RSVP to join @CAPAction 2pm Wed, June 4 for a discussion on the working class with Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) and Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D-IL). americanprogressaction.org/events/represe…
