17 million people losing health coverage and becoming uninsured is not "minutiae."

We do know what works & the new Exec Order not just allowing but incentivizing communities to actively harm people ISN’T IT! Helping people pay rent & giving them access to support services ends homelessness. We must protect people and join the fight against this inhumanity.
We all want to live in communities where all our neighbors have a safe place to call home and are treated with dignity. But yesterday, Pres. Trump issued an executive order that will worsen #homelessness and punish people simply for being poor and unhoused. This is wrong.
States are increasingly calling for special sessions this year, and it’s not just routine business. From addressing the impact of federal policy, to state tax debates, to shoring up disaster aid and political power plays, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of legislative overtime.🧵
This week at CBPP, we focused on #health, #immigration, #climate, and the #economy. cbpp.org/blog/in-case-y…

The Republican agenda gives massive tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations, cuts health coverage and food assistance, raises costs for millions, and adds trillions to the deficit.

CBPP's Kathleen Romig posted on Bluesky analyzing a recent SSA press release that claims improved customer service, despite cutting thousands of staff. Full thread: bsky.app/profile/kathle…

Low-income families will face higher food and health costs, lost coverage, and deeper poverty under the new GOP tax and spending law — which costs more than extending all expiring tax cuts, even after slashing #Medicaid and #SNAP.

AND Rs want to take away IRS $$ just as they're implementing confusing + unworkable rules on clean energy tax credits. Projects (esp. ones in rural + underinvested communities) aren't going to be able to leverage the credits + the result will be not meeting growing energy demand!
This proposed 45% cut to IRS enforcement funding would come on top of Rs nearly zeroing out the IRS’s extra enforcement funding from the IRA. The cuts are shortsighted & deeply irresponsible. They will cost significant & much-needed revenue & make the government less effective.
As SSA shuffles staff to cut phone wait times, people face longer delays elsewhere, a result of declining workforce alongside years of underfunding and cuts. “You just don't have enough people to go around.” says CBPP’s Kathleen Romig. #GreatRead via @NPR: npr.org/2025/07/22/nx-…
The GOP budget law cut unobligated $ for many IRA programs that would improve air quality + build climate resilience + lower energy bills. New CBO #s shows cuts to $14b in climate related programs supporting states and communities: cbo.gov/publication/61…
#GreatRead via @kmbc - 3.5M people nationwide could have food assistance taken away as states await USDA guidance on new #SNAP work requirements, which CBPP’s Ed Bolen says are in effect but unclear, leaving officials unsure “what they’re supposed to do”: kmbc.com/article/states…
Thousands of Pennsylvanians could have their food assistance taken away under the Trump Admin’s harsh work requirements which CBPP’s Ed Bolen says will hit “folks in between jobs...struggling to find more than 20 hours a week” in this #GreatRead from @WGAL:wgal.com/article/new-sn…
Future budget deals could be harder to trust after Congress approved funding cuts, raising questions about whether Republicans will stick to agreements or “just... cut again in the same way,” says CBPP’s Devin O’Connor in this #GreatRead from @Marketplace: marketplace.org/story/2025/07/…

NEW: The CBO has released its latest estimate on the recently enacted Republican reconciliation bill. About 15M people lose health coverage & become uninsured under the Republican #Medicaid & #ACA marketplace agenda. Policymakers should protect people's health care, not cut it.

📢 New Executive Action Tracker Entry: New Executive Order Underscores Threats to Clean Energy More from @MikaelaTajo cbpp.org/research/feder…
CBO's new estimate confirms: the Republican reconciliation law includes the largest #SNAP cut in history ($187B or ~20%). It will take food assistance away from more than 2M low-income ppl & cut food benefits for tens of millions more. Some states could even end SNAP entirely.
The latest CBO estimates make clear that the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is anything but--it would cause widespread harm with more than $1T in cuts to Medicaid & ACA marketplaces and higher costs for families trying to afford health care and groceries.
