Prediction 🔮: we will hear more stories like this.
Trump voter in Florida Keys has “a little buyer’s remorse” after ICE detains a third of his employees at small roofing company… #BecauseFlorida 🎥 @hatzelvela
The loss of TPS and parole workers has driven a caregiver crisis. Nearly 30% of long‑term care staff are foreign-born. Time to fix the pipeline with lawful visas, not skirted rules. nytimes.com/2025/07/18/us/…
President Trump has often emphasized the importance of standing by our allies. With ongoing threats in Afghanistan, extending TPS for Afghans honors that principle and allows them to seek permanent legal protection—and keeps faith with those who stood by us.
My latest opinion piece in @NRO, arguing that it’s unsafe for Afghans to return home because of the deteriorating in-country conditions. I also highlight the particular vulnerabilities that women and girls and religious minorities would face if forced to return home.
.@RepTomSuozzi gets it: fixing immigration means working with Republicans, not shouting past them. It's the only path forward.
The immigration problem has persisted for decades. The status quo is not acceptable. Now’s the time to pass real bipartisan immigration reform. Let’s do it.
15 more immigration judges fired this week, despite growing backlogs and funding to hire MORE judges in BBB. Make it make sense: npr.org/2025/07/15/nx-…
The new Gallup chart just dropped—showing the biggest back-and-forth reversal in US immigration opinion in recent history. Trump 2.0 came in with a clear GOP edge on the issue, but half a year later, it has already vanished. Surprising? Not if you know thermostatic politics🧵
The Justice Department is stepping up efforts to strip naturalized people who commit certain crimes of their citizenship. This is a huge departure from historical practice that could impact thousands of citizens.
The DOJ’s new denaturalization push raises the possibility that a traffic stop, an arrest during a protest, or social media post could trigger review of decades-old citizenship applications. thedispatch.com/article/justic…
Very efficiency. Such wow.

We applaud @SenWarren and @SenJohnKennedy for introducing the Build Now Act of 2025. It's a budget-neutral approach to our nation’s zoning crisis, focusing on the highest-cost communities that are persistently slow-growth. What it does ⬇️
Late breaking news: Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) have released a massive bipartisan housing bill ahead of a markup expected next week. Read the 315-page bill here: punchbowl.news/wp-content/upl…
A lot of people are blaming AI for grads’ poor outcomes, but I find the evidence for this claim is surprisingly thin. Excited to release a new analysis w/ @employamerica on the labor market performance of recent college grads. 🧵
I’m incredibly grateful for the public work @SenatorCollins did to protect PEPFAR and the many people it serves, particularly pregnant moms and their babies. No mother should fear she will pass on HIV when we have the tools to protect her child.
The PEPFAR cut is being removed from the rescissions package, per Sen. Schmitt. Reduces the size of the overall cut by $400 million.
We applaud @RepMariaSalazar and @RepEscobar for introducing the DIGNITY Act, which combines: ✅ Strong border/employment enforcement ✅ Protections for law-abiding undocumented immigrants ✅ Visa reforms to strengthen the economy, cut debt, and train American workers
Gallup’s annual poll on immigration attitudes is out this morning, and the results will surprise many: - Only 30% of Americans want immigration decreased (55% last year) - A record high of 79% of Americans think immigration is good for the country - Support for enforcement down
The use of denaturalization as a political weapon remains a significant concern under this administration.

America's housing crisis contains two problems: Above-cost housing & low incomes YIMBYism can cut rents down to construction costs, but it can't help poverty. Or can it? Turns out an Austin-style 15% rent drop would cut Californian poverty by as much as the Child Tax Credit 👇
New report by @ZParolin: Housing costs, especially in high-cost states like California, are a massive driver of poverty. A few of Zach's key findings ⬇️ 🧵
