News: This vote — a procedural vote on one of the 12 appropriations bills — will occur tomorrow, I’m told. Could still be packaged with others. Will be up to Dems to decide if this advances. Needs 60
Passing the Senate’s approps bills would achieve what Dems say they want — a bipartisan appropriations process. And the Senate bills call for more spending than the House GOP-drafted bills. But top Dems are casting doubt on the notion of helping Republicans pass any of them,…

Senate to vote this week on first of 12 government funding bills, possibly packaged with others. Will Dems go along amid threats to tank bipartisan approps post-rescissions? “As of now, it’s hard to see a path there,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said punchbowl.news/article/senate…
Let’s cool the jets guys, it was a walk-off catcher’s interference (yes, really)
The @Phillies win in walk-off fashion! (MLB x GEICO)
Just to put this in context. The House Rules Committee needs to report a rule so the speaker can put bills on the floor. The rules committee is paralyzed because of how the speaker is dealing with the Epstein issue. So the House can’t do anything of substance this week.
NEWS — RALPH NORMAN, hardline conservative on the House Rules Committee, says the panel will not report a rule this week for bills, effectively shutting down the house floor. Why? He doesn’t want to vote on Democrats’ Epstein amendments. He says it’s grandstanding.
Attendance issues for tonight’s fly-in vote. Full Dem attendance would’ve caused GOP leaders to scrap vote
Invoked, 44-43: Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #171 Terrance Cole to be Administrator of Drug Enforcement.
Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz) was stopped Capitol Hill police on his way into the Senate just now, asked for some ID, to which I believe Gallego responded "are you kidding me"
Murray’s support will likely give this the requisite votes to advance. Still, Dems want to discuss strategy at lunch tomorrow
Top Dem on Approps, Patty Murray, indicates she will vote to move forward with the MilCon-VA bill tomorrow. “I will let you know my strategy tomorrow, but I expect to, yeah”
From @PunchbowlNews Midday — Inside the Senate’s nomination backlog 136 nominees awaiting floor time, including 9 judges and lots of undersecretaries/ambassadors. Trump pressuring Thune to stay in during August, Thune says he’s considering it punchbowl.news/article/senate…
But Thune said members want to go home to sell OBBB “This is time of year when they go back and interact with their constituents” “I think the message about delivering the message about our accomplishments is something that our members are anxious to get out there and do”
Thune latest on canceling August recess, per Trump’s request: “We’re thinking about it. We want to get as many noms through the pipeline as we can.” “we're going to be looking at all the options in the next weeks to try and get as many of those across the finish line as we can”

A washed up 40 yr old reliever who’s been on the Phillies twice before and hasn’t performed. And we’re paying $12 million with the tax You gotta be kidding me
Right-handed reliever David Robertson and the Philadelphia Phillies are in agreement on a one-year deal, as @Ken_Rosenthal reported. Robertson will receive more than $5 million for the rest of the season on his deal, which is for a prorated $16 million. Phillies need RP badly.
Another bipartisan group heading to Canada to try to cool tensions amid trade war. They’ll meet with PM Carney This time it’s 3 Dems (Wyden, Hassan, CCM) and 1 Republican (Murkowski) Murkowski was one of just a few R’s who voted to overturn Trump’s Canada tariffs

Trump threatens to block new stadium for the Washington Commanders unless the team changes its name back to the Redskins —
What a time to be alive!
Worth remembering that there are plans for GOP senators to spend much of August touting the “big beautiful bill” back in their home states. Depending who you ask, this is more important for Trump than getting lower-level nominees confirmed.
Uh oh. Cancel those August plans… (Thune hasn’t made an official decision. But Trump prodding him on this is likely to play a big role.)

Senate Democrats face a key test next week as Majority Leader John Thune tees up a bipartisan funding bill vote that could tell us a lot about the likelihood of a government shutdown. More from @AndrewDesiderio —punchbowl.news/article/senate…
