A hope that my hometown, Newtownards, will gave a fabulous welcome to @authordlewis on Wednesday night. Nobody has captured the true essence of Blair ‘Paddy’ Mayne, better than Damien. A personal thread to mark visit… @blair_mayne

Yet another call for even more borrowing. This year the government will borrow at least £140 billion, of which over £110 billion will go to interest payments on previous borrowing (which now totals almost £3 trillion). That’s right — 75% of what we’re borrowing will be used to…
Next budget is crucial. I hope this report and Lords’ Economic affairs committee one will persuade HMT that we need more investment .Markets will not be scared by dropping nonsensical rule that debt ratio must fall in year 5 irrespective of what happens in years 1-4.
“The cultural dissonance between predominantly young migrant men from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Eritrea, and Sudan and the local population is producing a “public safety crisis” for women and girls…” @Keir_Starmer @YvetteCooperMP

SIR – Sir James Cleverly’s return to shadow cabinet not only highlights Kemi Badenoch’s lack of political flair & vision, but also confirms beyond doubt Tories are a spent force. It was Sir James who naively reopened Chagos dossier – among other blunders. telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2025/0…
“GB firms confirm that it is easier to export to Japan than to Northern Ireland. The reality is that we have farmers who cannot move livestock; horticulturists who cannot bring in trees and seed potatoes; and families who no longer get parcels from GB retailers, because more than…
This Labour Government seems to want to hide all sorts of important decisions but the secrecy over a publicly funded working group is inexcusable.
Why is the Government hiding who sits on a Windsor Framework working group? It shapes key advice on public policy. There is no transparency, no accountability. The public has a right to know. Secrecy erodes trust.

An excellent synopsis by @carlalockhart of just how damaging the Windsor Framework is to Northern Ireland farmers and business and consumers. The only Party committed to standing up to the EU and saying this ridiculous agreement negotiated by the Conservatives and backed by…

Read why this week I moved to annul the Road Vehicles Regulations 2025 which confirm the replacement of the UK Internal Market for New Cars with a GB Internal Market and an EU/NI Internal Market, undermining the UK, in violation of Section 46 of the Internal Market Act.

Perhaps in return Keir Starmer and his govt could bring themselves to acknowledge the deal would not have been possible without leaving the EU.
Boris Johnson, Kemi Badenoch & Nigel Farage should congratulate the PM on using Brexit freedoms to secure a good deal for Britain
Remembering today Rev Fraser McLuskey MC, Padre of 1SAS, who conducted Blair’s funeral in 1955 & who also dedicated his memorial statue in #Newtownards in 1997
1/4 July 24 2005. The Very Reverend Fraser McLuskey, MC, died aged 90. Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, he was known to 1SAS as the 'Parachute Padre'. Fraser was awarded his MC for his conduct in 1944 in Occupied France. His ashes lie in the Morvan.
It’s all going brilliantly. They’ll be in Nando’s by teatime.
It’s not called Your Party!
So the Corbyn/Sultana party is called ‘Your Party’. Right. We're used to political parties not being or doing what they say on the tin: Conservatives don't conserve; Labour sidelines labour; LibDems are illiberal/undemocratic. I mean, clearly, Your Party isn't yours (or mine).
It's time for a new kind of political party - one that belongs to you. Sign up at yourparty.uk.
When a schoolyard bully comes up against a bigger bully…
During the Brexit negotiations, the EU loved playing the tough guy with Britain. Notice how they are much slower to do this with the US in the current trade negotiations.
