This would mean the status quo is fully entrenched. 100,000 asylum seekers continue to arrive every year and continue to represent an enormous lifetime net cost to the state, but now the fact that some work for Deliveroo means the whole thing is reframed as a pillar of the…
Absurd gimmick. Stopping asylum seekers from working pushes people into destitution and forces reliance on meagre welfare payments. Time for a common-sense change to law to allow asylum seekers to work - to support themselves and contribute to the economy telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/2…
The arrogance of Khan. 👇 London is becoming a sh*thole. Parts of it resemble South Africa, Peru or India in the level of dysfunction and grime. He actually thinks it's getting better & that it's due to "diversity". Pure rage.
Sadiq Khan's spokesperson says: "Sadiq is delighted that President Trump wants to come to the greatest city in the world. He’d see how our diversity makes us stronger not weaker; richer, not poorer. Perhaps these are the reasons why a record number of Americans have applied for…
Katie Lam’s powerful speech about CSE gangs in Parliament now has ‘restricted access’ on X following the Online Safety Act coming into force. The speech quoted directly from victims. Their voices are being silenced by state regulation.
The British state won’t protect children from mass gang rape. But it will “protect” adults from hearing about it.
This is because China has had a fairly deliberate policy to acquire as much manufacturing capacity as possible. If Britain pursued similar policies, our energy generation would have been much greater, but we would be getting pelters from virtually all mainstream economists.
The general view of the UK economy is that it's been stagnating for decades now. But on some of the most important metrics it's actually going backwards...
That they’re advertising this at all is bad enough, but what is that salary?!
Yes, I'm not saying that ending immigration will save the NHS. I'm saying high fiscally negative immigration will make it even worse. What is it you *think* I'm saying?
200k applicants. 106k in process. 32k in hotels while 74k not in hotels. Fast track local connection approval and whisked to top of the queue. Insane.
Asylum seekers just get moved out of hotels and into social housing / the welfare system! Fewer in hotels doesn't mean they aren't here! This statement is remarkable.
There were 33k asylum seekers in hotels at the last count, far fewer than 56k peak in Sep23. Main difference now is the political temperature.
Migrants get full access without surcharge to the NHS once they get ILR. So again, they need to earn more than an average threshold over a lifetime to be net contributors.
Migrants pay the NHS surcharge so that point is less relevant. Either way, these problems are the result of poor public services. We have low birth rates. We need more working people, not less. 21% of the working age population are economist inactive!
This is what so many of us have pushed for 🏡📈 Seriousness about building homes. Getting young people on the ladder. Aspiration. Growth.
Conservatives will build the homes families need, but we won’t concrete over every green field to do it.
If one man pressured his wife to dress like this, we’d have no problem recognising it as shockingly abusive. People would call for him to be jailed. When it’s normalised across a whole culture is that any different? Makes me really sad.
A French TV producer travels to Algeria and is shocked to find women completely veiled, allowed to see through only one eye.
Economic migrants also retire. And use the NHS. And send their kids to schools. And if they end up being lifetime net-recipientsbthey make the public finances worse, not better.
If there are 20 million less working age people, who is going to pay for the pension system?
Reem is right that our pension system is unsustainable because of a shrinking working-age population. But the idea that mass migration is a solution is nonsense - particularly when most migrants aren't net contributors. Here’s why 🧵
If there are 20 million less working age people, who is going to pay for the pension system?
This is a very good thread. 👇 In short, importing net-recipient (over a lifetime) economic migrants makes the long-run public finances worse, not better. Moreover, if net migration exceeds housebuilding, the housing crisis will worsen - because obviously.

More Homes + Tougher Borders = British Homes for British People The @consyimby x @Katie_Lam_MP Formula #BuildBabyBuild
🚨 It's Official - "The Conservatives will build more" 1.5 million homes was always a pathetic target - a drop in the ocean. Let's build bigger, better, cheaper and quicker.
Owning a good home shouldn’t feel out of reach. But for too many young people - it does. @Conservatives will build more, build better, and protect the green spaces families love. I’m glad to have @JamesCleverly as my Shadow Housing Secretary to help get Britain building again.
Great to see @ConsYIMBY featured in a double page splash in today's Times! Plus a really fantastic video from @KemiBadenoch and @JamesCleverly this morning - capturing the right tone AND the right substance on building homes. Our #BuildBabyBuild🧢 hats are iconic now👇
I may be mistaken but I don’t recall Hi-slop raising any free speech objections over the Quran burning prosecution? Is he interested in free speech or not?
Ian Hislop, "It is pretty ludicrous we have got to a state where a man is arrested for carrying a joke? I mean, freedom of expression, freedom of speech, all those things we claim to be interested in?" Shame on @YvetteCooperMP and @Keir_Starmer - this isn't the change any of us…
