The leak is as striking as the idea of a non-spy as 'top spy'. But the real real story is why the media doesn't cover the extensive politics of the neutral civil service, where most power lies.
DIRTY TRICKS ALERT 📢 The briefing against "Beijing Barbara" - who may be "first woman to head MI6" is an unprecedented leak from the No10 shortlist, aimed at stopping her appointment... this is pure playbook PR... from top of secret world. Men in suits. Dark whispers. THAT is…
Be interesting to see who the people to whom the new party 'belongs' will vote in as their leader/s. Maybe 100k Farage fans will join and demand a merger of 'their' party with Reform? 😀
It's time for a new kind of political party - one that belongs to you. Sign up at yourparty.uk.
It's not complicated. Dr Upton's right to be addressed by court as female is protected by the 2010 Equality Act. Judge can't compel a witness to do same unless witness becomes overly hostile, but it obv isn't hostile to choose to refer to someone using their preferred pronouns.
Jane Russell raising what she says is creating a 'hostile environment' by Naomi Cunningham using pronouns he/him for Dr Upton which she says is confusing witnesses who have not heard Dr Upton being referred to in this way.
Interesting story for what it means to different people. It's Reform's money; seems likely Reform voters don't give a toss, or respond with a nod and wink. Riles the left, but that seems like a function of impotence. "But, ref...". theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
Matt Wrack is a properly capable union leader. But getting elected with 2.94% of the suffrage seems a pointless PR exercise. It wouldn't be *that* hard to increase the turnout, but that would lead to mainly non-political members electing someone, er, non-political.
I’m proud to announce that I have been elected the next general secretary of the @NASUWT. We need to win for teachers now, more than ever. Let’s move forward a united, powerful union.
"England's" silent majority perfectly represented by those who spent £2k each attending Glastonbury, it turns out. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Chap on radio (Ian Lavery) says he's been in the Labour Party for 40 years, but it's changed now. Um, whether you like it or not, it did actually change over 30 years ago.
If it's truly a policy failure and the editorial rules were observed, Davie might well have to go this time.
Religious faith is an unacceptable basis for personal values now, apparently. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
This, and ai-2027.com/race. Then buy Mountain Warehouse shares; also tents and cold weather gear for when the short-term profit from the sale of the shares becomes meaningless.

"The markets valued the whole business at £1.45, but we're we're taking a 45p hit at sale in order to preserve the historical-scale meta irony of the situation". theguardian.com/business/2025/…
"I reckon I can get a domestic violence story out of this"; "Nah, trope bête". "Mais Oui, The Guardian will go for it. C'est ce genre de pseudo-extension intellectuelle dont les Anglais sont toujours amoureux. Suis ma trace, daftie" theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Really? "separatism" listed alongside "hateful extremism" and "subversiveness" as requiring legislation and security services involvement? thetimes.com/uk/crime/artic…
Um, insulting to religious people too, and to actual democracy? Why would views rooted in faith be any less legitimate than views rooted in any other set of ideas?
'It's frankly insulting to disabled people, hard working professionals who've raised valid concerns, to have it dismissed as religious beliefs' @FloEshalomi hits out at Dame Esther Rantzen's suggestion some who oppose assisted dying have 'undeclared personal religious beliefs'
Buying a cheap 3 year old family EV for £20k? If it was listed new at a mere £40k you'll pay £605 VED per annum for your 'luxury'. HM Treasury's new disincentive on EV purchase. Only Chinese-owned manufacturers are coming in below VED tax. Buy Chinese; HMT official.
Reducing range & cost anxiety is still a problem in terms of #EV adoption in the UK, despite initiatives such as the plug-in van grant, lower BiK tax rates and an exemption from VED. Why has EV transition rate slowed in UK and what can attract fleet managers to EV driving? 1/2👇

The Song That Changed My LIfe - In A Big Country: Mike Peters
Paying tribute to an absolute legend, and all around amazing guy, the world recently lost. RIP Mike Peters, you fought one hell of a battle. Xx
Badenoch's in trouble because the Tories are ruthless with losers. Yet surely the most logical strategy for the Tories is hers: to deny to the hilt Tories would ever do a deal with Reform then, if they emerged as the largest party, do one?
