1⃣ NB: This proposal to add a unique code for "Post-exertional malaise/Post-exertional symptom exacerbation" relates only to the US's ICD-10-CM, which is developed/updated by NCHS/CDC. It does not relate to the WHO's ICD-10, ICD-11 or to other country modifications of ICD-10.
This heavily ratioed (commissioned🤦♀️) opinion piece by the @bmj_latest shows a core issue in medicine That is the connections/network you have to spread harmful, anti-consensus narrative that matters - not science, or the patient experience This should never have been published
Breaking news: Medical gaslighting returns as new wonder therapy yet again as Paul Garner continues to be silenced by being given opinion pieces in the BMJ.
Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) affects around 250 000 people in the UK. Reframing beliefs about illness, along with specialist rehabilitation, can help recovery in people with severe ME/CFS, @PaulGarnerWoof and colleagues bmj.com/content/389/bm…
A retired professor using his platform to suggest ME/CFS patients & charities resist recovery for profit, without evidence, is deeply irresponsible. Misrepresenting research to stigmatize sick people isn’t public health. It’s harm. And it needs to stop. 5/5 #MECFS #POTS
How much disappointment can one patient community be expected to absorb? The ME/CFS delivery plan has been delayed again - not because of unforeseen events, but because of poor planning. (1/3)
Deeply disappointing news in @thetimes confirming further delay to the Delivery Plan for ME. Once again #PwME go to the back of the queue. Small ray of light to see @HelenMorganMP and the @LibDems standing up for #PwME 💪 Quote in next post 👇
1/ @bmj_latest just published our response to Miller et al.. We took a deeper look into the studies cited by @PaulGarnerWoof and colleagues. We found some misunderstanding and hope we could help to point out why psychosomatics are not helpful for ME/cfs bmj.com/content/389/bm…
A former NHS consultant in rehabilitation, now medically-retired severe ME patient, on why standard rehabilitation is ineffective and often harmful in ME, & why telling severely ill patients that they must 'find their path' is ludicrous (and insulting): bmj.com/content/389/bm…
This letter, in today’s Times, stopped me in my tracks. The assisted dying Bill will affect all of society, in ways that have barely been considered.
2025 and crusty old white men are still telling women, or anyone afflicted with a "women's illness", that they are hysterical. In fact, the BMJ, one of the world's leading medical journals (debatable given their anti-science takes), commissioned some crusty old white men...

The clearest message heard from Maeve's parents was that she so wanted to live, and fought till the end.
@bmj_latest this should be withdrawn. Not least for the parents of Maeve. It is trampling all over her memory and suggests she died from a functional condition and lack of hope. She is cited amongst drivel after enduring medical gaslighting when she was alive. This is dreadful.
#MEAwarenessMonth - Day 4 1989, Dr Simon Wessely proposes a new theory: ME patients aren't ill but are unfit and have a fear of activity. He recommends CBT to change beliefs and graded exercise to restore fitness — this model shaped decades of harmful treatment.
#MEAwarenessMonth – Day 3 1988, the CDC recognise that it’s not a new illness and it’s most commonly referred to as ME, but decide on a new name: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Dr. Anthony Komaroff, who is part of the group that coins the name, later admits this was a “big mistake”

I'm not an expert on Long COVID. I'm not an expert on children with Long COVID. The authors of this paper are. This is an expert consensus. If you are interested in education, cognition and attendance, this is a "must-read". link.springer.com/content/pdf/10…
“Hello, my name is” introductions & badges need updating to include full name, title, and role: @NHSuk & @NHSEngland staff should introduce themselves w/ their title, name & role & have badges clearly detailing this to avoid confusion & misdirection, writes @doctimcook…
📚Suzanne O'Sullivan in her new book 'The Age of Diagnosis' has claimed that Long Covid is psychosomatic There has been ALOT of media attention on this 👉Our contribution on the tropes, techniques & tricks used... longcovidadvoc.com/post/the-suzan…
When neurologists like Suzanne disbelieve patients and discount scientific evidence it hurts patients and harms the whole system of medicine itself. The BMJ should be less willing to promote these efforts.
😮 This is just stunning. *Authorised* illness absence: still 37% up in Primary Schools still 50% up in Secondary Schools and 🚨 an astonishing 74% up in Schools for Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The most vulnerable children, the children most in…
Last month there was an announcement that I thought was a major advancement in world health, but it got little attention. I thought I would tell you all a little bit about it and why it is so important. 1/25
Every patient in every hospital bed deserves to breathe clean, disease free air. HEPA filters go a long way to doing that in older buildings with poorer mechnical ventilation. Frequent respiratory outbreaks in hospitals should be a think of the past.
New hospital study: air purifiers cut airborne COVID by 98%. Rooms with HEPA ventilation had zero virus detected. Clean air is essential public health infrastructure — not a luxury. Study: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #CorsiRosenthal #CleanAir #PublicHealth
One of my friends is having an operation in a month. It has been delayed twice due to illness, and he really wants it to happen this time... so he came to me to ask for advice on how to not get sick because I'm *the only person he knows who hasn't been off work sick in the last…
