Backing the blockers not the builders, again.
867 new homes to replace a car park and shopping arcade in Peckham. Rejected by the council (and opposed by the local MP, Labour environment minister @Miatsf). standard.co.uk/news/london/pe…
This is a superb contribution from @IgraineGray. In the face of enormous fiscal and social challenges it is time to question whether the sacred cows of UK politics are really delivering the best outcomes

Great to write for @WholeNationCons this week about how we must stop creating political sacred cows if we are to deliver for the British people & keep on delivering. Whether it be the NHS, the Triple Lock, the ECHR or the Greenbelt, we cannot continue shutting down debate.

Labour promised 1.5 million new homes. The truth? They’re miles off. The OBR says Labour will fail, like they always do. The last Conservative government delivered 2.5 million. And we’ll keep going. Homes where they’re needed, countryside protected, British families first.
Big infrastructure projects like @TidewayLondon do not come cheap. The @Conservatives made novel financing for Tideway possible. Other projects should be able to do this too. That's why the gov should take on @theresecoffey's amendment to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill 👇
Great point here from @SirSimonClarke, and echoing the great work that @ClaireCoutinho MP has been doing. Labour’s policies are actively inflationary, be it through energy policy, cynically reducing housing targets in London to spare @SadiqKhan’s blushes or hiking NICS.

The name's Clarke. Simon Clarke. @ConsYIMBY presents 'A Licence to Build'
More Homes + Tougher Borders = British Homes for British People The @consyimby x @Katie_Lam_MP Formula #BuildBabyBuild
This is a classic of its kind. If we don’t densify in London, everyone loses. 100% of no homes being social/affordable = no homes. 12% of many homes being social/affordable = some homes being social/affordable (plus all the wider benefits of releasing more stock).
I support building homes on the Aylesham site- but they must include the right amount of social and affordable housing. With 18,000 on Southwark’s housing waiting list and thousands of kids in temporary accommodation, Berkeley’s 12% offer simply isn’t good enough.
@consyimby Good work, guys!
We must build more homes for British families.
I support building homes but.... Explains why London had zero starts in 28 out of 32 boroughs!

"Why is their housing minister – Matthew Pennycook – still afraid to call himself a YIMBY?" @MrSimonDudley asking the questions no one in Labour is willing to ask.
Why 300,000 homes a year won’t fix Britain’s housing crisis by @MrSimonDudley 👇 conservativehome.com/2025/06/24/sim…
Owning a good home shouldn’t feel out of reach. But for too many young people - it does. @Conservatives will build more, build better, and protect the green spaces families love. I’m glad to have @JamesCleverly as my Shadow Housing Secretary to help get Britain building again.
Rachel Reeves claims that gutting the planning bill of anything that makes it easier to build is WORTH IT because it'll save two months in Parliamentary scrutiny! What is a couple of months compared to the YEARS of delays this will cause in the broken planning system?
Great to see @ConsYIMBY featured in a double page splash in today's Times! Plus a really fantastic video from @KemiBadenoch and @JamesCleverly this morning - capturing the right tone AND the right substance on building homes. Our #BuildBabyBuild🧢 hats are iconic now👇
Homes where we NEED them. Are we about to reclaim the mantel of the Party of Home ownership once more! Hurray!
Another welcome key shift in language here from @JamesCleverly: It's no longer "build homes where people *want* them" It's now "build homes where people *need* them" Suggests prioritising building where demand is high - as opposed to listening to a vocal minority of blockers!
