Assistant Professor @ut_mbs. Interested in disulfides, bacteria (especially Gram-negatives), protein structure-function, AMR, and urban art. All views my own.
We have some really exciting collections open @npjAMR - check out the link below. Includes, AMR in the food chain, Resistance genomics, AI/machine learning/data science approaches AMR, Pathogen Drug permeability and AMR in water!
Don’t forget to check out our current open collections on a range of topics that intersect with AMR to find the best home for your next manuscript 👇 nature.com/npjamar/collec…
A set of weapons bacteria use to fight each other, called microcins, are much more widespread and diverse than previously thought. They might inspire new ways to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria. Learn more in @NatureComms: rdcu.be/eumkH @ut_mbs @CIDatUT
Our overview of the challenging problem of antimicrobial resistance and how we can combat is finally out, after gestating for many years.... @IMBatUQ @COADD_news nature.com/articles/s4425…
It was such fun hanging out with Mark @markowenmartin during his visit with @UTAustinASM. Thank you for having me and for all the chats and laughs! We talked about #AMR and how we should work harder to combat it. @ut_mbs @TexasScience youtu.be/nSO2Tv6j1J0?si…
Thursday! So #MattersMicrobial Episode 93: Dr. Despoina Mavridou did a live podcast with me at UT-Austin. Hijinks and discussion of AMR and how protein folding can help against this growing threat. @profvrr @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound youtu.be/nSO2Tv6j1J0?si…

Delighted to share the latest from the lab, where we uncover the impact that the artificial sweetener saccharin has on bacteria
This is a phenomenal class! It is great to have it @UTAustin, as it can be the basis of so many CURE and other experiential learning modules!
In a newly transformed experiential-learning bio course, students take soil samples & isolate their own bacteria to search for new antibiotic candidates. Learn more & meet the team behind it: txsci.net/BIO206L #ExperientialLearning #STEMEducation #TexasScience #UTAustin

🆕 Antimicrobial resistance poses an important global health challenge in the 21st century. A new in-depth global analysis suggests more than 39 million deaths from antibiotic-resistant infections could occur between now & 2050. Explore the data: buff.ly/3zlVE0U #AMR
Exciting news🤩- we have an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Infection Biology & Immunology in our Institute @epflSV @EPFL_en Please spread the word & encourage outstanding postdocs, who are ready to start their own labs, to apply. THX 🤓 shorturl.at/bSvVe
Excited to see this out and to be a part of it. A very good overview of the #AMR crisis and of new promising approaches against it. Great job @amberldance @Nature nature.com/articles/d4158…

Amazing new lab to join!
We are hiring! Please share. Join us at the Microbial Ethology Lab! A postdoctoral position is open to investigate how bacterial behaviors influence the evolution of antibiotic resistance! @UTHealthHouston @UTHealthMMG @McGovernMed @thepostdoctoral 1/3
Gutted about this! Stuart was my PhD and postdoc mentor. I spent 10 years in his lab, and much of what I am today as a scientist is because of the environment that he created. He will be sorely missed!
Very sad news about the passing of Stuart Ferguson. Stuart wrote the book on Bioenergetics (literally) and was a formidable external examiner for my PhD. He was a great mentor and friend to many and will be sadly missed
