Better Streets West Dulwich
@betterstreetswd
Dreaming of a greener, safer and more child-friendly West Dulwich, with less traffic and more space for everything else.
We are dismayed our LTN is to be removed given the multiple community benefits and wide spread support 😔 We ask Lambeth council to reintroduce it after consulting on a permanent traffic order 💚 #SaveOurLTN

That plan is the old one that was scrapped, @TfL developing new options and so we have come together as a community group to ask to be involved and push for action - please come along to the public meeting on 23 July 🙏🏻
Without a Controlled Parking Zone there is little enforcement 😔 We need a #CPZ AND enforcement in West Dulwich to prioritise the safety of families walking, wheeling and cycling to and from the shopping parade 💚

Tonight is the night! Looking forward to meeting members of our community at 7pm at the former Salvation Army Hall at 246 Norwood Road - it's time to fix the gyratory! Everyone welcome @TheNorwoodForum @StationTStation @OlgaFitzRoy @betterstreetswd @LambethLivingSt @StMartinsLab
Joyful 💚 With so many schools in the area, let's make #WestDulwich safe for children to walk and cycle to school. 💚🚲💚🚲💚 @WestDulwichLab
Brilliant to join up with @AirRosendale on last Friday’s glorious #bikebus. Hundreds of children cycle to school in West Dulwich facing close passes and road danger every day. These children deserve their bike lane - @WestDulwichLab please don’t keep them waiting! #cycling
The new cycle lanes and planting on Westfield Ave in the Olympic Park are looking spectacular! 🚲🌹🌺🌷🌻 Good to see construction continuing at pace on the next section.
How did you go to school as a child?

We’ve been asking Lewisham to stop to pavement parking outside the Sandhurst/Sangley shops, and they have now delivered planters. This should make a huge difference. And our volunteers leaped into action today to spruce them up with various donated plants and bags of compost.
"Increasing physical activity has health benefits across the life course. As part of this, we need to make walking and cycling more accessible, and safer, as well as access to green space easier and more equitable." @CMO_England #ACY25
28 dead people is acceptable collateral damage to Paul and he accused others of denying reality 🤦🏻♂️
We're a city 1m large with what must be hundreds of thousands of vehicles in motion every hour of every day & you've called an emergency because 28 people die on the roads? Are you for real?
When it comes to re-greening, many cities face what @chrisfitchchris calls the "greenspace paradox": Those who stand to gain the most from cleaner air, cooler spaces, and improved wellbeing are often pushed out of their neighbourhoods as they become more verdant and desirable.🧵
Pleased to see this from @lambeth_council who have committed to pull together evidence on the impact of #carspreading on road danger. BUT it should be a quick job as the evidence is building daily?! We need action asap 🧵1/6 standard.co.uk/news/transport…
The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility. Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it. #CityMakingMath HT @modacitylife
A reminder of why the current one-way system around the Tulse Hill Gyratory needs to be fixed - local residents and businesses see the unfortunate and too-often tragic result of crashes and accidents on a regular basis @SebDance @willnorman @LabourMarina @TheNorwoodForum
West Dulwich is blessed with wonderful local businesses on Rosendale, Croxted, Park Hall, Robson and the thriving high street on Norwood Road 💚 We support local businesses and want to improve safety and access for everyone travelling sustainably. 💚 shoplocaluk.org
New data shows that cyclists could soon outnumber drivers in London inews.co.uk/news/charts-sh…
Urban SUVs are not okay, councils can disincentivise them via a surcharge for: - having bigger engines - weighing over 1800kg Or require 2nd permit for being more than 2.4m long (2 spaces) Or bollards either side of road that force wide cars to slow & often scratch them.
“From a health point of view activity is one of the best things you can do.” @CMO_England Prof Sir Chris Whitty. Small changes to streets help make walking, wheeling and cycling easier and more accessible. Leading to happier and healthier communities. @transportgovuk @DHSCgovuk
