I've mentioned before: one of my brothers, a brain tumour doc, died of a brain tumour himself in Feb2020. My family+his colleagues have joined forces to start an endowment for neuro-oncology resident training and research award. Link to learn/donate: bt-endowment.org
.@JanKEliasson is exactly right. If you want to ease starvation of children in Gaza, no need for air drops. The solution is simple: Let the UN and NGOs truck food across the border (and stop shooting desperate civilians trying to get food for their families).
Dropping food from the air in Gaza is an ineffective sideshow. During my time as UN relief chief we had to stop such aid. Minimal amounts were delivered and chaos and accidents occurred on the ground. All entries into Gaza have to be opened and distribution handed back to UN.
An Israeli minister boasts that “Gaza is being erased, we are wiping out the population.”
lot of cope in the replies. "Well all I wanted was a domestic gestapo. We're getting *that*, right? A gestapo? right?"
I've lost count of the number of people I've seen coping in my replies about how Trump is so great because he's based despite the fact his actual policy is the same paraliberal slop he campaigned against and was explicitly elected to put an end to. Hegseth's tats aren't policy.
You don’t get to just tweet your complicity away. It will haunt you forever.
Witnessing the catastrophic hunger and suffering of civilians, especially children, women, the sick and elderly, in Gaza has been heartbreaking. The crisis in Gaza must be met with an immediate and drastic surge in life-saving resources, such as desperately needed food, water,…
Hello I am a North American journalist and op Ed writer. For the last 18 months my dang computer has been auto correcting all of my writing and posts to say that what’s happening in Gaza is complicated but necessary. What I actually meant is that it’s bad. Thank you
Because of a family visit, I will be coming in Monday afternoon to #acl2025nlp (so most of a day late not counting tutorials) but I will be there to present posters at the GEM2 and WOAH workshops.
the aid to the population and the hostages Hamas is holding should not be connected issues
Let’s be clear what just happened here. International pressure on Israel encouraged Hamas to reject a ceasefire and get a “humanitarian pause” instead — without giving up a single hostage.
Senior Israeli military officials tell the NYT they never found evidence Hamas systematically stole UN aid and that the UN aid delivery system was largely effective nytimes.com/2025/07/26/wor…
"In my entire career, I have never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate, unnecessary force against a civilian population—an unarmed, starving population ... until I was in Gaza, at the hands of the IDF and U.S. contractors." — Former U.S. Green Beret

Reading this report from Crisis Group, what strikes me is the sheer inhumanity of a military strategy that aims to keep 2 million people permanently on the brink of famine. It is utterly sickening. crisisgroup.org/middle-east-no…
I am begging you please read every word of this
Horrible and the most horrific testimony you will ever hear I have spoken on a space with @AbujomaaGaza, who explained the process of the “Death Traps” the GHF have created…I quote “regularly posts the aid distribution schedule on Facebook. Each time, around 60,000 to 70,000…
#BREAKING One-third of Gaza's population has not eaten in several days, WFP report shows
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention – named after Raphael Lemkin, a Holocaust survivor who coined the term genocide – says it plainly: "No more discussions, meetings, reports, sessions, summits. GET FOOD AND WATER INTO GAZA NOW. IF YOU HAVE THE POWER, YOU MUST USE IT."
The @LemkinInstitute is calling on every leader in the world to step in immediately with measures that ensure food and water gets into Gaza right now. No more discussions, meetings, reports, sessions, summits. GET FOOD AND WATER INTO GAZA NOW. IF YOU HAVE THE POWER, YOU…
“A starting point, in my view, must be recognition that the Thatcher experiment failed: it did not transform the underlying performance of the economy for the better. This must now be admitted. Too much of the post-Thatcher performance was unsustainable. This was, in good part,…

Hey @grok, is paying lip service to "AI safety" better than just releasing the model without that ritual?
2/ EDUCATION in the US: students overpay (500-1000% more than European costs), most teaching is done by underpaid adjuncts (<10% of tenured salaries); money goes to administration, real estate developers, & vendors (s.a. Springer). Same model for HEALTHCARE.
