Thrilled to announce I'll be starting my own neuro-theory lab, as an Assistant Professor at @YaleNeuro @WuTsaiYale this Fall! My group will study offline learning in the sleeping brain: how neural activity self-organizes during sleep and the computations it performs. 🧵

New work @CurrentBiology from the labs of @neurojeanne @YaleNeuro and Thierry Emonet @MCDB_Yale show that some fruit fly neurons 🪰🧠 can be multifunctional: the same neuron can tell fruit flies to walk towards the smell of rotting fruit and speed up. medicine.yale.edu/news-article/t…

Congratulations to Denethi Wijegunawardana @Yale_INP @YaleNeuro for passing her PhD thesis prospectus with valuable inputs from @MattGirgenti @JanghooLim and Steve Strittmatter!

Excited to welcome Dr. Katie Copley as a new postdoc in our lab @YaleNeuro! She recently completed her PhD in @ShorterLab and did amazing work on designing small RNA chaperones to counteract TDP-43 pathology in ALS-FTD.

Congratulations to @BerrakUgur1, PhD, from @PDClab @YaleMed for being granted the 2024 Rare Epilepsy Partnership Award, co-funded by @CureEpilepsy & @fam177a1! She will use patient-derived neurons and brain organoids to study FAM177A1-related neurodevelopmental disorder.

Congrats to @Yale senior Parisa Vaziri on winning the 2025 @KavliAtYale Undergraduate Thesis Prize 🏆! 🎉 Working with @MCDB_Yale's Damon Clark, her thesis uncovered a novel auditory illusion👂 & the algorithms underlying it. Next, she'll pursue a PhD in Neuroscience at Harvard.

Congrats to @Yale Neuroscience senior Zach Moynihan on winning the 2025 @KavliAtYale Undergraduate Thesis Prize!🧠 During his thesis, titled “Application of predictive score to identify novel microcephaly genes”, Zach was mentored by @tanyeri_barak & Adife Gülhan Ercan-Sencicek.
