Misunderstanding on NIH funded research here. Grant proposals are reviewed by peers. Currently, only 10 out of every 100 proposals are funded, often after multiple resubmissions. Projects need to show strong progress to maintain funding. NIH funding has remained flat for decades.
This is an estimate. What about all the negative impact projects of the governments choosing? What is the magnitude of those? It is incomplete to ignore the costs of taxes and then again the ignore the costs of gov’t malinvestment.
