An inequitable geographic distribution of students who are even trying to get into specialized high schools. Awareness of, and desire to attend these science and math-focused schools must be brought to the Bronx and central-eastern Brooklyn. @BPEricAdams @rubendiazjr

Even if SCOTUS bans the use of race in admissions next year, racial discrimination will still continue hidden underground. The best weapons we have against racism are STANDARDIZED TESTS! Keep NY State's Hecht-Calandra Act & the #SHSAT!!
The Supreme Court has a rare and valuable chance to reaffirm the principle of racial equality if it decides to hear the appeal in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. on.wsj.com/2TjAL11
Segregation is admitting students based on race. Therefore school choice forbids segregation.
The idea that "being able to go to literally any school" is "segregation" may be the classic example of the skillfully crafted but totally meaningless slogan.
PS25 in Bklyn D16 has just 55 kids in the entire school. Class sizes ranged from 6-18 kids for past 6 years, w/declining enrollment. With low student to teacher ratio and funding at $45K per student, only 1/3 are grade level proficient in reading and math. The problem is NOT…
The New York times has just published a story supporting standardized testing. Thread
I don't think they were giving away free math or #SHSAT prep books!
No need for ice cream trucks, food carts, Uber cars, and etc. if this keeps up. I know we are data driven so let’s get the demographics on this at #UnionSquarePark @UFT @STEMExcelNYC @NASA @FeldmansClass @CECDistrict15 @CECDistrict2
Standardized tests level the playing field for Equity: "Perhaps the best use of [standardized tests] is to identify those with strong intellectual abilities ..." Watch: youtube.com/clip/UgkxaL4TJ…

So many parents tell their kids, "Just do well in school." But they don't realize that that is such a LOW BAR: lower than the state's minimum proficiency standards. @NYCMayor let's raise expectations, and our children will rise to the challenge! @LiuNewYork
Defending #SHSAT is NOT enough! @NYCSchools is lying to families: For example @AMBichotte's Walt Whitman MS is PASSING 89% of their students, but 83% of them are FAILING NY state standards in math. No wonder they expect to get into @bronxsci. @LiuNewYork PLEASE investigate!!!

“Senator Liu has been defending this test for many years and will continue to defend it in the future. He does not expect any changes in the SHSAT test.” Thank you @LiuNewYork for defending #SHSAT and upholding Hecht-Calandra. worldjournal.com/wj/story/12138…

.@AMBichotte, standardized tests expose inequities in education. Getting rid of tests to cull Asians at @StuyNY only covers up the needs of your district's children to be better prepared for a rigorous high school.
.@LiuNewYork: "Everyone wants to see different test results, but if the education system does not change, the results will not change." @NYCSchools: Prepare our students for high school! @NYSenateDems: Keep the #SHSAT that holds the city accountable! worldjournal.com/wj/story/12138…
The #SHSAT exposes inequity; it doesn't cause it. Some would rather kick Asian students out of @StuyNY & declare 'victory' than teach Black students math. @toddkaminsky @SenJoeAddabbo @ShelleyBMayer @tobystavisky @LiuNewYork @SenSeanRyan @AlexisWeik @Brooks4LINY @AndreaSCousins
There’s no doubt in my mind that SHSAT needs to be protected and be kept in place.
AM Bichotte’s SHSAT attack is front page of Chinese papers today. We haven’t heard from sitting electeds. Will you pls reiterate your support to #KeepSHSAT and HC. @LiuNewYork @tobystavisky @SenIwenChu @WilliamColton8 @edbraunstein @rontkim @AMGraceLee @AMLesterChangNY
Aren't they wide open already? You do well on a test, you get in. That's it. That's about as open as possible.
"LOOKS LIKE": @Harvard becoming mostly Asian & white under meritocratic admissions would reveal the truth in K-12 education and enable us to make interventions as necessary.
These are the four teams that represented USA in 2019 at the International Olympiad competitions in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. What do you see in these pictures?
Colorblindness is misused here. We ALL see color. (except for the few % visually impaired). The question is what we do with that information. We must NOT lazily invoke stereotypes as a proxy to prejudge based on color. We MUST look deeper, past color, to judge worthiness.
Affirmative action is a badly failed experiment: time to put a nail in the coffin & restore colorblind meritocracy.
