Our latest work on a #nitrogenase-like enzyme, the methylthio-alkane reductase which surprisingly also contains large nitrogenase metalloclusters, the P-cluster and the [Fe8S9C]- (L)-cluster is now online: doi.org/10.1101/2024.1… Have a look at the 🧵 by @AnaLagoMaciel.
Great collaboration with @LennartSchada and @minrui_Ren on an #enzyme converting the #plastic component ethylene glycol to a feedstock chemical for microbes. Offering new ways to use plastic for developing biotechnological processes.
Ethylene glycol is widely used as monomer of the plastic PET. It is therefore very relevant as sustainable feedstock for microbial biotechnology. In our new paper in @NatureComms, we characterize efficient enzymes for ethylene glycol oxidation: nature.com/articles/s4146…
Excited to be at the Molybdenum Tungsten Enzyme Conference MoTEC on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. Entertaining presentation by Ralf Mendel!

Super happy that EnzyMS, our LC-MS pipeline for detecting promiscuous #enzyme activity, is out in @ChemCatalysis ! Testing it on WelO5* + soraphen A uncovered an oxidative demethylation - missed by standard tools. Curious? 👉 cell.com/chem-catalysis…
Please share: I am hiring a postdoc that will work on enzyme characterization and engineering in the frame of the EU consortium project C5. Read all details here and apply until August 10: universiteitleiden.nl/en/vacancies/2…

Did you know that metal ions are required or control more than 90% of metabolic pathways, and that physiological concentation changes affect most od the proteome and signaling system? Tour de force from our Simran Aulakh! authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S24…
A must read for anybody interested in the evolution of life and how to construct phylogenies using structures .Outstanding work by @KaHochberg and co-workers. Congrats!
New paper from the lab from @SriramGarg. We introduce a general substitution matrix for structural phylogenetics. I think this is a big deal, so read on below if you think deep history is important. academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-ar…
