[Narrator:] They ignored the lessons.
NYC (8.5mil) has fewer murders than Baltimore (625,000). Just cause this is the new normal, don't ignore the lessons. It wasn't inevitable.
What if, now hear me out, many shoplifters aren't actually need-driven but violent people who _also_ steal. And stopping and prosecuting shoplifters can deter violence. But short of that, it's good to conduct "routine traffic stops" that catch them. nydailynews.com/2025/07/25/cop…

The thing that's going to get lost in this horrifying story is that the traffickers were the parents of the kids. This is why this is a crime that's so insanely hard to stomp out.
At least 10 children between the ages of 3 and 15 were held in an underground bunker in central Alabama and sexually exploited, tortured and trafficked, according to the local sheriff’s department. Seven arrests have been made, with more expected. wapo.st/3IL6BNO
Look, I'm not going to pretend that the Biden admin was 100% perfect when it came to this conflict but it was just so obvious that Kamala would have been light years better for the people of Gaza than Trump. And yet the activists spent 100% of their energy on her & ignored him.
The Trump administration gave cover to Israeli aid blockade and utterly inadequate substitute to the UN as Gaza tips into starvation premised on propaganda and falsehoods about widespread Hamas aid diversion nytimes.com/2025/07/26/wor…

I was recently at a rural place where ambient sound was 23dB. It was blissful. Here in Queens "quiet" is ~43dB. On the subway today it was 78dB. (It's an exponential scale. And yes I measure such things because I can.) NYC is a loud city. It doesn't need to be _purposefully_ so.
If this means the end of bass cars? Not only is this incredible, I hope it becomes standard operating procedure across the nation

Does this type of antisocial behavior deserve a ticket?
MGP is exactly what you want in a legislator. Truly.
We need solutions that make sense for working people, like skirts on mobile homes. Not just tax credits for heat pumps most folks can't afford or for people to buy an EV that's their third car. I voted against an energy and water funding bill in committee last week, because we…
I am really horrified that the situation in Gaza can't drive the parties to make a deal and get food in. And yes, this is part of it.

A man accused of trying to kill 2 Chicago cops got released on an ankle monitor (Thanks, SAFE-T Act!), only to cut it off and disappear. The U.S. Marshals found him in a crawlspace last week and had to use tear gas, flash-bangs, and a dog to get him out. cwbchicago.com/2025/07/man-ac…

Great line from Janan Ganesh quoted in Greg Breman's excellent (forthcoming) book, The Nonprofit Crisis: "None of these people actively desire civilizational meltdown. They just under-rate the prospect of it happening as an inadvertent result of their actions."
"The true administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good government"

The best tweets ever on this app, for wildly different reasons: 1. Perfection. I don’t think this can ever be topped. Two sentence, concise. Not a single unnecessary word.
Serial shoplifting criminal goes into a drug store, threatens to kill, attacks workers steals, and a worker fights him. Criminal dies. Why are we prosecuting the worker? It's as if DA Bragg must prosecute the worker to distract from his own failure to prosecute the criminals.
Hamas is insisting that the UN, not Israel, distribute all food on Gaza. It’s such an open secret that they control the UN in Gaza that it’s part of their negotiations.
A gravely injured gunshot victim lay alone for over an hour this morning while police and his family searched for him. The shooting happened in an area that previously had ShotSpotter—a gunfire detection system that could have helped locate him quickly. cwbchicago.com/2025/07/shooti…
