In this year’s budget cycle, the City Council Progressive Caucus fought for real public safety by demanding investments in the mental health system with our Crisis to Care campaign. We are thrilled that we won $80 million for these initiatives in the 2025 (FY26) City budget.

NYC tenants who are displaced by fires and emergencies can now count on significantly more support thanks to @CMJenGutierrez and @CMShekarK! This is about helping our neighbors when they need it most, and I'm proud to have co-sponsored these bills.
🏠 Today, the Council passed the Back Home Act to support New Yorkers displaced by fires, floods & emergencies. In this video, @CMShekarK and @CMJenGutierrez speak on how this legislative package will help impacted tenants return home as quickly as possible.

I was proud to support @CMCarlinaRivera’s legislation because grieving families deserve truth, and our city deserves a corrections system rooted in integrity and oversight.
Yesterday, @NYCCouncil passed a bill requiring @CorrectionNYC to notify family and the public within 24 hours when someone dies in custody. This is an important step towards ending secrecy, advancing transparency, and restoring dignity. queenseagle.com/all/2025/7/15/…
Carlina joined @errollouis on @InsideCityHall to discuss her bill mandating investigation and reporting, family notification and access to information + belongings, accountability for misconduct, and interagency review when someone dies in DOC custody. ny1.com/nyc/all-boroug…

While staff attorneys are struggling to pay their rent, the Big Bad Budget increased ICE funding by 400%. The @alaa2325 members are striking for increased funding to bolster legal defenses for the most vulnerable, and fortifying the city against a hostile federal government.
The @NYCProgressives proudly uplifted their bargaining demands during this year’s budget because we know what’s at stake. We’re wondering if Eric knows, too. Solidarity forever with the working people of our city #newyorkisauniontown
Yesterday, @NYCCouncil passed my bill, part of the Back Home Act, to help displaced tenants stay in their neighborhoods— so kids can stay in their schools, be close to family, & have the same commute. I'm proud to work with CM @JenGutierrezNYC & @PiSanchezNYC to protect tenants.
Because the City Council demanded this be funded in the budget…

If you are victim of an emergency, you shouldn’t have to leave. You deserve to go back home, and today we are passing laws to make sure that can happen.
Always proud to stand on the side of the working people. We can afford to pay our workers. What we cannot afford is not having a legal line of defense against a hostile federal administration.
