Everyone should be horrified by what's happening at immigration court proceedings. All New Yorkers of faith, and of conscience, must do everything they can to stop the harm and bear witness. These ICE abductions are completely devoid of humanity, compassion, and due process.

Trump and ICE want to stop immigration court observations. But as long as they use this building unlawfully—locking up people in inhumane conditions—we will keep showing up and shining a light on these abuses of power.
“While the Trump administration is trying to make sure that immigrant communities are silenced, New York City has a legal and moral obligation to expand language access services citywide.” Read our new report on serving our linguistically diverse city: advocate.nyc.gov/reports/langua…

You already know: ANOTHER Heat Advisory for NYC. The Advisory's in place on Friday, 7/25 from 11 AM - 8 PM, with temperatures and humidity climbing today. If you don't have A/C, be ready to visit a cooling center tomorrow: finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenters/ More: advocate.nyc.gov/blog/stay-cool…

JUST NOW: @nycpa/@JumaaneWilliams talking about language access especially given increasing lack of translation in immigration court. Also discussing the mayor "finally" speaking out about the holding cells in immigration court. Wants @NYCMayor to go farther (building inspectors)
After the Trump administration forbade federal agencies from providing many multilingual and translation services, the Public Advocate has released a report on ways the city government can strengthen its language access services in a city of immigrants: advocate.nyc.gov/reports/langua…
How are you doing, NYC? Really? It's OK to not be OK. This National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, here's how to seek support and change systems that stigmatize and gatekeep self-care. More: advocate.nyc.gov/blog/minority-… #BIPOCMentalHealthMonth #SelfCareDay #MMHAM
Glad @NYCMayor has FINALLY decided to address the abuses happening a few blocks from City Hall as so many asked. While the mayor waits for the Trump admin to hold itself accountable, he should at least TRY to have DOB and FDNY inspect the space as we requested w/ @NYCComptroller
NEW: @NYCMayor has sent a letter to Trump Admin asking for an immediate inspection of 26 Federal Plaza.
26 Federal Plaza is not a courthouse. It's an abduction trap—and a makeshift jail where asylum seekers are held for days in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions on the 10th floor. @nycpa and I are demanding an investigation into whether this de facto jail violates zoning laws.
Brad Lander and Jumaane Williams are calling on the Buildings and Fire commissioners to see if a makeshift jail inside 26 Federal Plaza is up to the city’s standards. DOB says it doesn’t have the authority to do that. thecity.nyc/2025/07/23/26-…
We gathered yesterday in the wake of Christian Collado's death in DOC custody—only for another New Yorker, Edwin Quispe, to die on Rikers Island that very morning. It can never become routine, normal, or acceptable for people to die in the city’s care and custody.

Mayor Adams wants to sign a 5-year contract extension for @NYCSchools's 45-year-old year old school bus contract. @nycpa and I ran the numbers. Here's why the contract is harmful to NYC students—and why extending it for another 5 years is a mistake 👇
Less than three years, in exchange for decades stolen from a young woman's life. Perhaps we are meant to be satisfied the sentencing exceeds the one day offered by Trump's Department of "Justice." The struggle for accountability must continue, undaunted. 19thnews.org/2025/07/breonn…
With the freezing of federal education funding & the @usedgov on the brink of being dismantled, @realDonaldTrump is out to destroy public education. I'm proud to stand alongside @CMRitaJoseph in the fight to ensure the next generation has access to free, public education.
Proud to be here with our New York City school communities along with @NYCComptroller , @nycpa , @SenatorBrisport as we send a clear message to Trump and MAGA extremists: keep your hands off public education. 📢
As Trump dismantles the Department of Education, his Deputy in City Hall stands by silently, and half a billion dollars meant for NYC students is gone. We must speak loudly so all those who hope to undermine learning will hear: INVEST in our education, our kids, and our futures.

Via @politicony: Extreme delays. Overlong routes. Brutal heat. @NYCSchools's poor bus service is widespread, especially hurting homeless students and those with IEPs. For @nycmayor to lock in a 5 year extension to a flawed 45 year old contract is simply unacceptable.
