it feels like 44C out here. i’ve been out here 45 min and it’s so hot and lots of people are hiding in the shade but so many have asked for water. there are no cooling centres. the city has no water out for people. the heat is dangerous.
going into a heatwave and the city’s plan to support unhoused people is the “heat relief network”, telling people to stay cool by going to malls, splash pads, pools… this is absurd. bring back cooling centres. deploy water trucks.

Toronto Public Health & Toronto Police in their infinite wisdom have decided paying 3 police $90 an hr plus a nurse to do basic outreach is a good use of public money. You can see the 3 police twiddling their thumbs & walking in circles. The red backpack belongs to a TPH nurse…

Why is Toronto Public Health partnering with the Toronto Police? This will have really harmful consequences. It will discourage people from accessing medical supports. It will destroy the trust that outreach workers have spent years building with unhoused people...

The Lemkin Institute has had it with the cynical lies and propaganda from Israel and the USA. One can have different views about the definition of genocide, but one may not use definitional disputes to deny genocide. If a genocide may be occurring, every nation is compelled by…
police haven't explained the reason for their mass presence at demos. most charges they've laid recently involve their own interactions with the public police generally aren't charging people with harming or threatening the public, which is what they always talk about
It’s amazing our politicians continue to bow to police demands for ever increasing budgets without meaningful accountability. It’s incredible that those we task with so much road safety responsibility, time and time again demonstrate their misguided approach to it 3/3
We can advise that this pedestrian sustained only minor injuries, thankfully. They later reported to police. TPS did not charge the officer involved (who left the scene) with any infraction. 2/3
TPS 🧵 It is your obligation to pull over and exchange information in the event of a collision. It’s also the right thing to do to ensure the person you hit receives cautionary medical attention as they may be in shock. You don't just drive away officer...1/3
NEW: Journalists can and may be charged with incitement to genocide for work they’ve published since October 7, should Israel be found guilty. I argue that some of what has been published in Canadian media may meet the criteria, and explain why in detail. readthemaple.com/are-canadian-j…
Drivers are the single biggest threat to our safety, and yet even with 51 Division half a block away, the cops could do nothing to protect us from this deadly weapon wielded on a busy sidewalk in broad daylight. Maybe if we gave them more money

If the financialization of Canadian housing by foreign investors is inflating its cost — which it definitely is — why does the same not apply to investors and speculators here? The problem is financialization, period. Not the passports of the people profiting from it.
Homes are for Canadians to live in and should not be used as a financial asset class by foreigners. We are using all possible tools to make housing more affordable across the country—including by extending the ban on foreign ownership of housing in Canada. tinyurl.com/yc3fznpt
Despite Trudeau flaunting photos of him surrounded by kufiyas on Instagram, his caption makes no mention of Palestine at all. You hear us? We SEE your actions. And only a few hours after that post, the Trudeau government quietly admits it authorized new military exports to Israel
