Campaigning to stop sewage pollution in Windermere. “Manifestly unreasonable” Environment Agency, 2024. Visit http://www.savewindermere.com to join the fight
🚨 Breaking News 🚨 Save Windermere has once again been involved in exposing United Utilities exploitation of Windermere. Today the BBC reported that in the last 3 years, United Utilities has ILLEGALLY dumped 143,000,000 litres of untreated sewage directly into Windermere from…
"Water chiefs’ pay rises to average of £1.1m despite ban on bonuses and outrage over pollution." So how's that ban on bonuses thing working out then? Yet another shallow policy doomed to fail. theguardian.com/business/2025/…
Would that be the newspaper than runs lots of “sponsored” stories about the environmental friendliness of a well known water company?
Well that's odd. 24 hours ago The Westmorland Gazette posted a story about swimmers getting sick while taking part in the Great North Swim on Windermere. Apparently sewage was being dumped into the lake at the time. 1 day later the article has disappeared from their website.…

The problem is @SteveReedMP said “pollution levels are worse in Scotland” which implies concentrations but have provided ‘incidents’ per 10,000km of pipe and the % of EDMs fitted. This doesn’t mean pollution is worse.
OFFICIAL: The SNP are managing water pollution in Scotland even worse than the Tories did in England👇🏼
Fifteen penguins are captive in London Aquarium's basement enclosure without fresh air or daylight. But campaigners are on a mission to #Freethe15 🐧 Children led a protest outside the Sea Life centre this morning.

I spent a year at Ofwat back in 2013 working on price controls I’m not remotely surprised it’s being abolished - what I saw astonished me 🧵 theguardian.com/business/2025/…
TODAY'S LESSON ON GETTING CAUGHT OUT AND AN APOLOGY TO @krishgm Govt claimed yesterday that the £100 billion cost to nationalise the water industry is accurate and that the figures did not come from water companies. Really? Let's see shall we. On the 23rd July 2024 Baroness…
"Cunliffe report won’t make one atom of the UK’s water any cleaner." Me, in today's @thetimes thetimes.com/uk/environment…
Sounds good but experience shows reorganisation of public sector bodies is expensive, takes years and is no guarantee of better outcomes. It risks being a distraction to the short term action desperately needed.
“Roughly a third of your [water] bill goes towards debt servicing and paying dividends.” Water companies aren't providing the service being paid for, and are instead “shovelling” money to shareholders, says sewage campaigner and Save Windermere founder, @MattStaniek #TimesRadio
Meanwhile in other news the water industry rich list. The men and women that have been paid a combined total of £278 million in just 11 years. That by the way is your money. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
Cunliffe doesn't refer to "illegality". Only once to "illegal" saying it is difficult to say "whether a storm overflow discharge is legal or illegal. I submitted extensive evidence of water company illegality but no reference is made. @Feargal_Sharkey @MattStaniek @WindrushWasp
"Is it all for the birds if they don't renationalise and take it into public control, or do you think that some of the things in here can make a difference and improve things somewhat, even if they don't go as far as you'd like?" @edballs questions campaigner Feargal Sharkey,…
#cunliffe is wrong when he implies privatisation improved the water quality in the UK on @BBCRadio4 . The EU Urban Wastewater Directive improved water quality across Europe including the UK. Privatisation just happened at a similar time.
Opps... govt really has been sussed. Govt's supposedly new sewage targets are worse than the old ones. That's what happens when you try to regurgitate a bunch of policies from previous govts and try to pass them off as your own. Good work @adamvaughan_uk / @thetimes 👏👏👏
@Feargal_Sharkey here's a chart that tells the story of how ambitious the government's new sewage pollution cuts target is
