Finally an MP that GETS it. We could do with someone like this as Work and Pensions Secretary.
At launch of important new #DisabilityBenefitsConsortium report showing disabled people hit 4 x harder by benefit cuts losing around £1,200 on average each year - even before move to Universal Credit. #WelfareUnfair
Please lobby journalists, just because a government source tells you its a "major concession" it doesn't mean it is. The changes weren't due to come in until November 2026. Delaying them until after the Timms Review "in autumn 2026" is not a concession. It's spin.
A thread on unpaid carers in hospital caring for their relative & the @DWPgovuk stopping benefits despite the hospital “stepping back” & getting unpaid carer to provide the care - long 14-24 hr shifts with no days off for weeks on end @kategarraway
Visual story of our hospital stay at start of year Hospital admitted today: “Staff sometimes take a step back & leave the loved one or carer to provide much of the care.” That carer was me Stayed 24/7 doing all care while @DWP stopped both PIP & CA reality of unpaid care 🧵

Someone just tweeted me and said we can’t afford to have 20–25% of the population on PIP. So, as a PSA: 20–25% of the population AREN’T on PIP. 20–25% of the disabled population are on PIP. The percentage of the whole population is 5.5%. #TakingThePIP

Why are there more PIP claims? Because chronic illness has exploded. Long NHS waits. No social care. No early help. That’s not fraud - that’s government failure. #TakingThePIP
I hate to say it, but I was thinking they’d concede. It’s not about the “disabled” at all. It was all about they’re own MPs and the “rebellion”
Keir Starmer could have ruled out cuts to #DisabilityBenefits at today's #SpendingReview. But he chose not to. He could have chosen to tax billionaires instead. But he'd rather balance the books on the backs of sick & disabled people. Remember that next time you vote.
Welfare benefits are not too generous. Not by any stretch of the imagination. They are woefully inadequate. They need raising. All Labour MPs who support these cuts to Disability Benefits or abstain in voting should lose their seats. #PMQs
In a nutshell, Starmer's Labour government has become exactly what people were voting against in the last General Election. That is why there is so much anger, and that is why Starmer's position as PM is now untenable.
The problems in our society are not caused by migrants or refugees. They are caused by an economic system rigged in favour of corporations and billionaires. If the government wanted to improve people’s lives, it would tax the rich and build an economy that works for us all.
They know people will suffer and die as a result of #DisabilityBenefits cuts. That makes it premeditated. Murder. They know this will happen to disabled people, not just one person. Genocide. See it for what it is. And shout it as loud as you can.
Dear diehard Labour voters who told me that Labours benefit cuts won't affect the sick and vulnerable and would only be targeting fraudsters.... #LabourLies #LabourOut
