“No breaks, annual leave, sick leave, or uninterrupted rest periods. We are expected to carry on, day after day, with little or no sleep. That’s why many carers don’t need alarm clocks – because their shifts never end” bylinetimes.com/2024/04/18/neg…
Hard to read indeed...though perhaps a second read through would be a good idea actually.
This is hard to read. Impossible to calculate the human cost of the cruelty and failures of Universal Credit and our disability benefits system theguardian.com/society/2017/n…
Hello @IKEAUK IKEA makes us scan our own shopping, then scan the receipt to leave, then stop us again for a security check. If you don’t trust the self-scan system, just bring back staffed checkouts. Customers shouldn’t do all the work and feel like suspects.
How dare they suggest a thing Ange! By the way-what difference would a £47 a week cut mean to a child eating or not? Asking for a friend.
Speaking as someone who has been reliant on free school meals and on social security, saying that fighting against a £20 per week cut in Universal Credit a stunt is offensive and out of touch. £20 a week is the difference between children eating or not. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
Presumably now you would just tell them they were "misdiagnosed" and send them off to the gym.
Packed surgery this afternoon. Biggest issue is treatment of disabled people by authorities that are supposed to help them. Feeling angry.
Angela doesn't like it when governments take money off the disabled to fund weapons.
Thanks for the tremendous support on my position over Trident, amazed we can find money for this but we steal £30 a week off disabled people
Esteemed knight of the realm makes economic case for increasing benefits. I hope Stephen Timms is listening.
Social security is an effective tool to stimulate the economy. Much of the spend on the policy feeds through into an increase in economic activity. To support recovery, the economic case is clear: make the £20 a week uplift to Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit permanent.
Only 17 peers back disabled people on cuts, as leading Tory says living on benefits is ‘not a life of dignity’ #UniversalCredit #UniversalCreditBill #Disablism disabilitynewsservice.com/only-17-peers-…
Inclusion isn’t just about equipment—it’s about commitment. An accessible entrance must stay accessible. Otherwise, it’s just a tick-box gesture. #MethodistChurch #BostonSpa

The government warns about “welfare abuse,” But turns a blind eye to how it abuses unpaid carers — No breaks, no help, no protection. When will that be called out? #ProtestFromHome #SupportCarers @Keir_Starmer @leicesterliz @RachelReevesMP @wesstreeting
A society that forces unpaid carers to hold up signs just to ask for rest is a society that’s failing. Sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s a basic human need. Why is no one in government calling out this abuse? #ProtestFromHome #GiveCarersABreak
Today, we take unpaid carers’ voices to Parliament. #ProtestFromHome
#UnpaidCarer calls for ambulance - doesn't come, so she dies. Therefore disabled daughter starved to death. No one found their dead bodies for months No #UnpaidCarer in the uk is surprised. Clearly zero support provided for the mother by services prior to their deaths
Terrible indictment of our times. A very ill mum died despite phoning an ambulance & her daughter with Downs died probably through starvation. They were not found for months. Not a tragic situation it's about the breakdown of our services & communities nottinghampost.com/news/nottingha…
Our research shows that forcing parent carers to battle for support - & subjecting them to unsubstantiated accusations of neglect, abuse, or FII - puts them at risk of suicide & homicide. It's time to fix the system and stop blaming #ParentCarers!! thetimes.com/life-style/par…
Well done, Elly. I’ve lived this too. Accused, judged, punished—for trying to get help when my disabled daughter was unwell. I know her best. I’m her voice. They knew us seconds and turned our world upside down. No one’s ever held accountable & the trauma never leaves you. #FII
Sincerely hope that sharing our story will now bring about the withdrawal of the current, harmful #FII guidance and that our communities will no longer be targeted, just because we are perceived as 'different'. All humans are different. Time we did so much better than this 💜
We demanded help for our sick children. We were accused of abuse - Elly Chapple recounts the horrific treatment they had when simply asking for support - #FII thetimes.com/life-style/par…
Maybe it’s not you. Maybe it’s the system - outdated, out of step, and blaming those within it. There’s nothing wrong with being different. Every human is. Diversity isn’t a flaw. It’s our strength. It’s time the system caught up with the truth. #FlipTheNarrative 💜 #human
Yes.
Is government ‘sitting on’ damning report into learning disabled people’s deaths? channel4.com/news/is-govern…
Please check out this important report I pitched to Channel 4 News. It should have been longer but was cut short because of the busy news day.
The health secretary is under growing pressure to release a long-delayed report into the deaths of learning disabled and autistic people in England.
Unpaid carers just trying to stay alive Those who are sick & those with disabilities just trying to stay alive @Keir_Starmer @KemiBadenoch @RachelReevesMP @leicesterliz Have you tried cutting their benefits?
Business owners: literally just trying to stay open Starmer: Have you tried… more tax?
