Ironically while certainly true that exercise increases healthspan, it also remains unclear if exercise increases lifespan.
Taurine, a darling of longevity seekers, is an unreliable aging biomarker - another example of hype in anti-aging field. Rigorous science plus randomized trials are needed to identify interventions that inc healthspan. For now - EXERCISE. statnews.com/2025/06/05/tau… via @statnews

New work from our lab that extends our interest in how metformin, a proposed geroprotective drug, attenuates adaptations to exercise. shorturl.at/9uL5t
Another terrific collaboration led by @maml_UWMadison and his team! Note that intermittent rapamycin is more compatible than chronic rapamycin tho!
Rapamycin Does Not Compromise Exercise-Induced Muscular Adaptations in Female Mice 👉"Collectively, these data [suggest] (1) rapamycin is largely compatible with the physical and skeletal muscle benefits of PoWeR and (2) the detrimental effects of rapamycin on glucose metabolism…

RESEARCH | @dylan_duerre, @GalmozziAndrea et al. (@UWMadison): Inhibition of haem synthesis is shown to lead to the accumulation of branched-chain amino acids in the brown adipose tissue of mice, which impairs #thermogenesis 🐭🌡️ nature.com/articles/s4225…
Ketogenesis is dispensable for the metabolic adaptations to caloric restriction 👉"Our work suggests that the benefits of long-term CR in mice are not mediated by ketogenesis..." Chung-Yang Yeh (@iCCup_Spec), @LammingLab and coauthors biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Anti-aging effects of popular supplement taurine challenged. This new study is “more convincing” than the previous one, says David Sinclair @Nature nature.com/articles/d4158…
Congrats to Rafa and colleagues for rapidly debunking taurine.
Taurine, an amino acid once considered a biomarker for human aging and a candidate for supplementation, shot down @ScienceMagazine science.org/doi/epdf/10.11…
Got an email from a publisher that will be charging NIH supported authors an open access fee to comply with the new public access policy. As a reminder: this is a choice by the journal and publisher, they have other no-cost ways of permitting authors to comply with the policy.
Sad to learn we lost Keith Blackwell, an unsung hero of the aging field who came to @americanaging meeting several times. Keith showed rapamycin extends C. elegans lifespan, discovered mTORC2 has diet-dependent effects on lifespan, and linked together skn1 TOR splicing and aging.
TODAY: Saying goodbye to my dear friend, Prof. Keith Blackwell, taken far too soon. A reminder that we all have such little time together - and why medical research matters. Miss you, man 🙏🙏🙏
"Receiving a grant from the NIH is very challenging. It takes years of work...I've literally dropped to my knees with gratitude. These are a big deal, and they are our lifeblood, and to just have that terminated is devastating." - D. Sinclair @ABC abcnews.go.com/US/350-harvard…
Congrats @HosungBae @Sunhee_Jung_ Johnny and co-authors for their work! @CellCellPress sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Proud to share a free link to our latest paper — a mouse metabolomics frailty prediction clock ⏰ Collab with @Alice_E_Kane 👏 @Nature_NPJ
Excited to collaboratively publish with Caroline Alexander’s group demonstrating the contribution of dietary lipids to skin lipids and their insulating properties. And proud of Simcox lab member Raghav for leading this collaboration! @NatureComms nature.com/articles/s4146…
