I look forward to joining the congregation at the Miracle Church, Bedford later this morning for their celebrations and worship.
And you speak as an expert on local government, Ian. @INLOGOV
Exactly John. Parish and Town councils are usually (in most cases) offered the option to adopt. The problem is there is so little information on which make an informed decision. It’s very easy to end up with unpredictable liabilities, I speak from experience
I’ve written for tomorrow’s @TheSun, Britain’s electoral system wasn’t designed to cope with the rise of multi party politics and is creaking under the strain and we might see lots of seats won on small shares of the vote. thesun.co.uk/news/politics/…
This is an important article by @RMCunliffe in @NewStatesman on unadopted roads and estates, and the important campaign that @alistrathern is waging for legislative change. We know the example of the unadopted road full of potholes in Shefford all too well. So do our tyres!
From ownerless roads to unadopted estates, communities are feeling the pains of the growing retreat of local councils from our public realm. Great to speak to @RMCunliffe about what it says about our politics when issues become no one’s problem to fix. newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…
61% of internships completed by university graduates aged 21-19 are unpaid or underpaid, research by Sutton Trust has found. Delighted to see the govt is taking steps to ban unpaid internships which act to lock out those from working class and underrepresented backgrounds.
🚨 Call for evidence on banning unpaid internships 🚨 Today, @biztradegovuk has announced a new call for evidence to inform what action the Government should take to put an end to unpaid internships! This a very positive announcement ⤵️
Alan, thank you for sharing Brynhild Parker’s “ Islington”. I do not associate her with street scenes. This one is fantastic. It is a shame that she did not paint more street and urban scenes.
Good morning, John @JohnTizard & thank you, as always. Yes, another week has rolled round & another #SaturdayMorning has arrived! Here's a rare example of a street-scene by Brynhild Parker. This is "Islington" by her from 1938. It shows a view from Myddleton Square to Mylne St.
#OTD 1945. Election Landslide. Clement Attlee becomes first PM to lead a majority Labour government. Winning a 146 seat majority, he says "It will give heart to all those all the world over who believe in freedom, democracy and social justice" A thread 80 years on👇🏼
It is Saturday morning and we have another chance to enjoy Brynhild Parker’s “Interior”. Thank you, Alan.
As is my wont each #SaturdayMorning, here's "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930. It has always struck me as an encapsulation of everything that one might wish for in a view when sitting down to breakfast at the start of a lazy week-end. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup
The British way is to respect the police and allow publicly accountable, publicly funded and publicly authorised police services not privately funded “security” teams to police our streets. bedfordindependent.co.uk/we-werent-invi…

There were 33k asylum seekers in hotels at the last count, far fewer than 56k peak in Sep23. Main difference now is the political temperature.

Baroness Laing(Tory) takes a swipe at Reform for spreading misinformation: "The considerable amount of misinformation that's being spread by a particular political party is unfortunate & working against community cohesion.."
This is the United Kingdom addressing Israel and the world. The statement may be late but it is unequivocal. As accused, Israel can no longer be considered an ally. Please listen to it all and share widely.
The IDF has killed starving Palestinian civilians trying to get aid. Settler terrorism and talk of imposing the illegal E1 settlement plan are flagrant attempts to prevent a Palestinian state. There is no justification for this. A two-state solution is the only path to peace.
