Pre-print out from the @SternbergLab with our contribution on the structural side. Great effort from Matt, Egill Tanner and the rest of the team leaded by awesome Sam! A 1 year effort on my side learning helical reconstruction by cryoEM... 👇
1/16 New pre-print from the Sternberg Lab! We uncover how temperate phages can use RNA-guided transcription factors to remodel the flagellar composition of their bacterial host and enhance their fitness. Find the preprint and full story here: tinyurl.com/mshwjd77
Folks, let me illustrate, in a very Spanish way, how the experiments planed for today in the new instrument, turned out... 👇 It all started promising and then...

I am so incredibly excited to share our latest work, on the exploration of #RNA secondary structure ensembles and discovery of RNA regulatory structural switches in bacteria and human cells, out today in @NatureBiotech: nature.com/articles/s4158…. A short tread! (1/n)

100% agreed 😀
If you want to make sure that nobody understands your results, draw them as a Circos plots. Their inventor is permanently residing in the 7th circle of visualization hell. 😆
This is something....
Thrilled to share our new paper in @ScienceMagazine! 💥 We developed a computational platform to design tiny 'minibinders' from scratch that can guide T cells to kill cancer cells. This is proof-of-concept for targeting intracellular cancer antigens with a new modality! 🎯
🤯Three (!!!) new papers today in @ScienceMagazine on the application of generative AI for the de novo design of peptide/HLA binding molecules! Completely unique 3D structure and binding mode compared with natural TCRs and TCR mimics! Links to papers 👇
That's a wrap! The results of the first #cryoEM heterogeneity challenge are up on biorxiv! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
I know what these words means separately but I have no clue what this sentence means... like, what is this shit?

'water is transparent only within a very narrow band of the electromagnetic spectrum, so living organisms evolved sensitivity to that band, and that's what we now call "visible light". ' (found via HN)

The NIH has decided that scientists can only submit 6 grants a year. OK. But you need a score that’s < 10% at least to get funded. Meaning, at best, 1 out of 10 grants you submit will have a chance (YMMV of course). 🫠
Few people realise the scale of the Himalayas because static maps are a bad way to convey topography. Fortunately, we can use interactive maps to explore topography. Here is an example using Pyvista.
Happy to share new preprint from our collaboration with Peter Nixon group from Imperial College. New insights into Photosystem II assembly/disassembly. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Those three flew that rocket to the Moon, and with Mike orbiting, Neil and Buzz walked on the surface 56 years ago today. One of the greatest achievements in all of history, it still inspires the world.
Oh boy! Cryo day without auto-loader… what an adventure young folks are missing!
