🚨 Personal news alert... After 4 1/2 years with @margarethodge her elevation to the @UKHouseofLords has meant I needed a new job. I am so excited at the end of this week to be starting with @kimleadbeater. The old boss & new boss handed me over this week at conference! 😊

me on the phone to my manager explaining why i can’t come in tomorrow
Don’t think I’ve ever - ever - watched a #PMQs like it. Not for awkwardness for Starmer, but for Rachel Reeves’ face. Poor woman is crying or straining not to cry. She looks shattered. It’s a brutal business
I wouldn't ever want to be Chancellor for all the money in the world. Incredibly tough job. Impossible ask. Especially over the last decade. How do you try to piece together the mis-shapen, independent jigsaw pieces of consumer issues, business, the economy, bond markets, stock…
Sorry but who gleefully yells “She looks thoroughly miserable! Thoroughly miserable!” at someone who is visibly distressed?

This isn't true. @lucianaberger Dr Annabel Price from the Royal College of Psychiatrists gave evidence to the Bill Committee on Thur 30 Jan at the 7th Sitting of the committee. They also submitted written evidence and met with the Bill sponsor. hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2025-0…
I was in Newport earlier today for the @rcpsych Congress. The College has profound concerns about the role of psychiatrists on the #AssistedDying panels. It is absurd that they weren’t allowed the opportunity to give evidence to the Bill Committee.
The amount of abuse levelled at myself, Kim & incredible activists including @NathanielD93744 & @sophieRblake since Friday is off the scale. But this weekend doing the #RunforJo reminds me no matter our differences we have #MoreInCommon. We should be able to disagree respectfully

Still processing yesterday. It still hasn’t quite sunk in the enormity. One thing I know is this couldn’t have happened without @kimleadbeater at the helm - she’s just incredible. Pleased to have played a small part. ❤️🌹🤍

Following today’s vote, I am pleased to say my Private Members’ Bill has passed its Third Reading.
As a young doctor, I found assisted dying totally unconscionable. But, now that I'm an old doctor, I feel sure that it's an essential change.
No, MPs haven't legalised abortion up to birth. That lie was spread here by many who should know better. The change is about saving a handful of vulnerable women from trauma and prison. Women about whom those people do not even think. New writing from me open.substack.com/pub/goodalland…
No, it hasn’t.
BREAKING: Abortion has been legalised up to birth in the U.K. This is unspeakably evil As a doctor and a human being I will spend the rest of my life fighting against this barbarism You should too
The Great Parliamentary Get Together 2025 to celebrate the life of Jo Cox with other staffers, MPs, ex-PMs and cabinet members (!!) Thank you @kimleadbeater @HannahShort97 for organising and now looking forward to our @exeterlabour local event at the weekend ❤️ #MoreinCommon
🔍 What the Bill Actually Says Per Clause 2, a person is defined as terminally ill if they have “an inevitably progressive illness, disease or medical condition which cannot be reversed by treatment”. Let’s engage with facts as we head into the final debate.
🧵 I’ve spent months scrutinising the Assisted Dying Bill — line by line at committee stage. This bill does not do what it says on the tin. ⚠️ This bill is a danger to public safety. It leaves serious loopholes including for people with Anorexia. Here’s why MPs must vote…
This is being painted as unusual or sinister, but it’s totally standard. The only way to avoid it is to hold Third Reading on a different day to Report—something no Government bill has done this Parliament and which hardly ever happens these days.
We won’t even get to see the final Assisted Dying Bill before we’re asked to vote for it. That’s why I’ve signed this letter with 50 other MPs asking for more time. 1/2
Worth noting that the same thing happens with virtually every Government bill (if it is amended at Report Stage).

Huge well done @ToniaAntoniazzi & her team for getting this through. A historic step finally ending the combination of women for accessing healthcare. 👏❤️
No woman facing one of the hardest moments of her life should face a criminal investigation. Today we have the opportunity to change that. I urge colleagues to support New Clause 1 and stand up for compassion and justice.
The assisted dying bill does have one fewer clause than the BSAI bill (64 vs 63), but it also currently has ~40 fewer pages.
