After thirty years ...nope but I'm an eternal optimist...and live in hope!
Stephen Flynn, "On Brexit, everyone across the UK right now feels that Britain is broken" "And the guy who orchestrated Brexit, Nigel Farage, doesn't have to face the consequences of the economic damage that Brexit has done to the UK" "It has made us smaller, it has made us…
In Spain it's a very common and popular practice for local councils to organise extensive summer sports and activity programs for children and teenagers during the school holidays. These are very affordable for all.
How to sum up the debate in one 'tweet'. We are not free childcare & that's coming from a mum to two! 🙃
The issue isn’t the length of the summer holiday, which is one of the shortest in the world. The issue is a lack of investment in clubs, activities, camps & things for kids to do. Schools aren’t a babysitting service & our core purpose risks being severely undermined.
The attempted academic argument is how kids suffer educationally being off for so long. Those bilingual Mediterranean kids, as one eg with their longer summer than ours, really must suffer…
How long before the nonsense circulates that the school summer break, despite being one of the shortest in the world, is too long in England? We need to stop conflating education with child care; they're different things.
The demands, expectations and challenges facing those who work in schools are very different from what they were for most people who started their roles pre-2020. It's a different world.
Oh here we go again... we should also be asking ... should MP holidays be shorter also....
Top tip: if you’ve finished for the summer, don’t feel guilty about having a proper rest. You’ve earned this break. I bet over the year you’ve worked at least 6 weeks of non paid hours. Now’s the time for you to do you.
It's the same old story.... there is a problem...so guess what school will fix it... what about the children of teachers... this is quality time for them
There isn't any way to address this other than to say it's wrong. Regardless of your view of the wider GAA body, affiliations and political ambition the matter of children playing and learning together is always the better way. Wouldn't it be much better if children from…
A cross-community sports summer camp in County Down is cancelled after an Orange lodge and others objected to the involvement of a "small group of children from a GAA club".bbc.in/4lGH3Qo
In 25 years of teaching, I have never seen such a rapid & fundamental change in the way children are thinking, behaving & interacting. I thought it was Covid but I now think it's the digital age they're growing up in & I really hope people cleverer than me are looking in to this.
Today I received an FOI request from @BDSAssociation. I’d genuinely ask all organisations to consider if sending such a request, in the last throes of the academic year, is reasonable for school leaders even if they consider it not to be ‘onerous or complicated.’
A 2022 report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) confirmed that UK public sector workers.... have experienced .... declines in real earnings across all sectors.
I’m not a doctor, I’m a paramedic. I can never replace a doctor, but I do often work alongside them. In the ongoing conversation about fairness in healthcare pay, one thing is clear: doctors deserve full pay restoration. This is not about inflating salaries, it’s about…
Hmmm and therein lies one of the problems - shoehorning everything into ITE is a cheap solution for government.
