"The choices that count are not only, or mainly, whether to invade or bomb or not. They are also the choices... to give Israel at least $3.8 billion in military aid every year, no matter what; to expand NATO to countries the US has no intention to defend." x.com/stephenwerthei…
In @nytopinion I write that President Trump is failing to be a peacemaker. He is not on track to reduce America’s military involvement in the world and is keeping the United States in a position that invites more wars, potentially much larger ones. Gift link below.
This is bad for Ukraine -- and I give a lot of credit to many of Ukraine's strongest supporters in Washington for calling it out and opposing it.
This is a massive mistake. NABU and SAPO are crucial organizations that must remain independent to be functional. The strength of Ukraine's anti-corruption fight is also essential for maintaining international support in the war. Please don't do this. politico.eu/article/ukrain…

This was my final episode hosting Power Problems. It's been a privilege. I want to thank Cato for entrusting it to me and my listeners for the support and feedback.

If you think you've had a tough year, my book editor only allowed me to insert a 600-word preface to cover everything that's happened since then. 😭😱😵💫

But is Europe finally making its own choices, accepting that the US is no longer as invested on Ukraine — or is Europe still trying to pull the US along with it?
The EU is moving to lower the price cap on Russian oil *unilaterally* That breaks from the original concept, which called for G7 consensus on any changes It’s the first time I can recall the EU getting this far out ahead of the U.S. on sanctions policy 👏🇪🇺
This is an idea that is getting more traction. I wrote about it in "The End of Ambition" cfr.org/book/end-ambit…. Victoria Coates and Rob Greenway from @Heritage have also advocated for this kind of change heritage.org/sites/default/… Some Israelis are also attracted to the idea.
Israel is a rich country that doesn’t need American aid. America is far from the Middle East with limited resources there and doesn’t need to be telling Israel what to do. It’s past time for a more normal relationship. slowboring.com/p/america-shou…
