Labour Cllr Noel Park Ward. Chair of Alexandra Palace and Park Board. Gooner till I die! North London Forever!
My piece in today’s @guardianopinion on why Haringey Labour administration is standing up to the Home Office. We refuse to collaborate with deportation of rough sleepers. My message to rough sleepers -our outreach staff are here to help you | Emine Ibrahim theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I have just been sent this photo as this is currently happening in the ward I represent Noel Park / Wood Green. @ukhomeoffice on what basis are you apparently stopping people on a busy North London high street to establish their immigration status? On what criteria ? Outrageous

Following a meeting with representatives from our Muslim communities in Haringey, Bibi Khan and I have written to the Foreign Secretary calling for: - Recognition of a Palestinian state - An end to arms sales to Israel Our communities are urging the government to step up.
🇵🇸 There is no justification for delaying or denying the recognition of Palestine. LMN has been campaigning for recognition of Palestinian statehood for nearly a decade. Today we join @MayorofLondon, MPs, Councillors and Members to call on the government to act now.
Tell your friend I’m British Mr. Tell your friend my father was British citizen when I was born in 1976 at Greenwich District Hospital Mr. Tell your friend if so very interested in my immigration status that when my parents were born in Cyprus it was under colonial rule MR.
And what’s your status then miss? Just asking for a friend
Let’s be under no illusions re their intent. Zero tolerance for racists and fascists.
“Bring back hanging” the real face of “peaceful” anti-refugee protests in Canary Wharf Stand up these far right thugs on the emergency demo now outside Britannia Hotel now #StandUpToRacism
This is outrageous. I want to be abundantly clear that the council were not informed of this and the first I heard was when someone sent me the social media link. If the Home Office wants to descend upon people in this way the least they can do is talk to local stakeholders.
Currently happening in wood green north london crack down on Uber and deliveroo drivers & immigration checks also
Tommorrow July 20th is 51st anniversary of the division of my parent’s homeland Cyprus following the military coup and attempted assassination of Makarios on 15th July 1974. Over half a century but the pain and generational collective trauma of all Cypriots remains. #Cyprus

‘Haringey Labour is DELIVERING’ Our leaflet has been delivered in St Ann’s this weekend. We are making a difference in every part of the borough, investing in parks, community facilities, schools & so much more. This is our community & together we can achieve so much more.
Another Haringey Labour team out this afternoon delivering letters to residents in St Ann’s.
‘There’s this really powerful word called “and”.’ Health Sec @wesstreeting argues that the key to being ‘trans-inclusive without erasing women’ is right under our noses.

Prancing around Kew Gardens tonight in our with my big sister to the soundtrack to our childhood! Thank you @humanleagueHQ for the memories and a fantastic night
Is this the first split? This new left party hasn’t even got a name yet and there are already factions! Come on this is actually beyond parody.
Anyone briefing against a socialist MP to the Sunday Times and FT (for factional reasons) should not be involved in any kind of new party. A clear red line, and basic political hygiene. This is muscle memory from the pre-2019 years, but that doesn’t make it acceptable.
The British working class does not want a new left party. Our class wants our party The Labour Party to deliver its historic mission as our voice and voice of our Trade Unions in Parliament. You cannot appoint yourself to the leadership of our class unilaterally on social media
Local Cool Spaces are open across Haringey for anyone who may struggle in the warmer weather - all venues offer cooler temperatures, free drinking water, and seating. 🔗 Take a look: bit.ly/4n56dcV #BeatTheHeat
Love this from my neighbouring borough! A lot of my family, including my mum, were involved in the rag trade in the very early days. Thank you @carowoodley and Hackney council 🙏🏼

This looks fantastic though the conditions were tough I am sure you are aware- will definitely come down to the exhibition and bring my mum. Her first job when she arrived in the UK in 1973 was at a garment factory in Hackney. Thank you @carowoodley and @hackneycouncil

Our Leader, @perayahmet, has joined Citizens Advice Haringey, @DisabilityActHa and @MindinHaringey to ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to withdraw the welfare proposals in their current form and carry out formal consultation with disabled people and their carers.
Haringey Council with local disability and welfare organisations sending a clear message to Government to think again on welfare reforms. Councils will struggle to meet the needs of vulnerable residents impacted by cuts in their current form with continued pressure on our budgets
We have joined forces with disabled & welfare groups to raise concerns about the welfare reforms that will affect residents. @perayahmet has written a joint letter with @DisabilityActHa, @HaringeyCAB, @MindinHaringey to Liz Kendall calling for changes. 👉bit.ly/4kXOnXv
