Backstory on our recent paper @JExpMed, showing that frequent viral and bacterial infections drive heightened nasal innate immunity in children. This work was inspired by the puzzling observation that kids were less susceptible to #COVID_19 than adults... a thread (1/12)…

Excited to share our paper identifying that bat coronavirus HKU5 uses ACE2 from its native bat host and American mink as a receptor. This highlights farmed mink has a high risk intermediate host for HKU5-like viruses. nature.com/articles/s4146… @YaleIBIO @YaleMed

Our recent study in @eBioMedicine explores the potential of a nasopharyngeal #Biomarkers, CXCL10, to improve respiratory virus screening. Discover how this could impact outbreak management and routine screenings. Full story here: shorturl.at/TZEBi #PandemicPreparedness
As I step down as @iuis president, I reflect on the achievements of immunology science & challenges ahead, and call on scientists to reclaim the narrative on science and explain with "humility &clarity" science’s contribution to global health & prosperity👉loom.ly/iZseYbQ
In a new study, @Yale_LabMed researchers identify a new nasal biomarker #test for ruling out #respiratory #viruses, potentially reducing the need for costly #PCR testing: bit.ly/4nskKiI
#ToStressOrNotToStress! @CadwellLab &co show @NatureMicrobiol that stress induces #interferon stimulated genes protecting against an RNA enteric virus! After immune suppression by stress-induced glucorticoids, CD8 T cells get activated protecting the host! nature.com/articles/s4156…

BREAKING: Condoleezza Rice just went on Fox & Friends and dismantled Trump’s war on universities and scientific research. When even Bush’s Secretary of State is side-eyeing your assault on knowledge and education, you’ve officially crossed into uncharted stupidity. This isn’t…

More than 2/3 of new medicines are created by biotech and in-licensed by pharma, and nearly every innovative biotech comes from academia. That’s because it takes years and years of sustained and consistent focus and perseverance on a basic biological problem to lead to innovative…
