Thanks for having me @TodaysVerdict @BronxnetTV
Back in the studio discussing wrongful #bronx #convictions with the #BronxDefenders. Now let’s have @AOC come on to give the Bronx her opinion. I am a member of your #SouthBronx district and would enjoy having you as a guest. @Bronxnet @TodaysVerdict
“The correct response to Mr. Trump’s misuse of clemency is…to demand that goverors who have similar powers use them on behalf of those who clearly warrant that measure of humanity.” In the past year, Gov. Hochul granted clemency to just one person. nytimes.com/2025/07/11/opi…
Last week, BxD's Criminal Defense Practice Policy Director @EliNorthrup spoke with @bronxnettv Today's Verdict about discovery, early defense, wrongful convictions, and the systemic failures of the criminal legal system. 🎧 Watch the full clip: bxd.pub/BronxNetJuly20…
BREAKING HUGE WIN! 🚨 New York just announced that phone calls will soon be FREE in New York prisons, bringing around $13 million in relief annually to incarcerated people and their families. The new policy is expected to go into effect on August 1st. Spread the news!
This is a glaring example of waste and mismanagement by the Adams administration. The City is fighting to hold mentally ill individuals in solitary confinement at Rikers rather than staff a new secure treatment facility it spent $240 million to build.
A 104-bed facility for seriously ill detainees is mostly finished but unopened — three years late and nearly double its original cost — because the Department of Correction says it lacks enough officers to secure it. buff.ly/hNqU3gE
“During his warehouse visits, Donlon also learned the department didn’t have a functional tracking system to find evidence for police or prosecutors, court papers say.”
The argument for rolling back discovery reform was that prosecutors supposedly couldn't turn over evidence in time, so cases were being dismissed. Supporters of discovery reform said the problem was NYPD's failure to turn it over. Well, see item #4 here: gothamist.com/news/5-claims-…
Small acts of heroism
A local baseball coach says he fended off ICE agents talking to kids during a recent practice in Riverside Park. "I was just focused on how can I get these kids to where they need to go, when they are in my care." westsiderag.com/2025/07/10/a-b…

One week ago today, we shocked the establishment and redrew the political map of New York City with a campaign relentlessly focused on the needs of working people. Let's break it down.
Quick endorsement news: Brad Hoylman-Sigal, the projected Democratic nominee for Manhattan Borough President, endorsed Zohran Mamdani for Mayor on Thursday, both campaigns tell West Side Rag. "Now is a moment for Democratic unity," Hoylman-Sigal said. westsiderag.com/2025/06/26/uws…

Thank you @AmandaSeptimo for your leadership in passing the PromPT Stability Act and lifting up the story of our client Shamika Crawford on the Assembly floor
We commend the New York State Assembly for passing two crucial pieces of legislation this session: the Promoting Pre-Trial Stability Act & the Right to Remain Silent Act. Read our full statement: bronxdefenders.org/the-bronx-defe…
The Upper West Side on a Thursday evening.
Just a few of the neighborhood canvasses across the city over the past 12 hours.
Sending strength to Zohran who has managed to run a clear-eyed and principled campaign in the face of enormous pressure and threats to his own personal safety. It’s such a hard thing to do. Many Jews, including myself, are with him for this very reason.
Zohran Mamdani says he’s consistently said there’s no room for antisemitism in this city or country. Asked why he hasn’t had a more visceral reaction, he gets emotional talking about the Islamophobic responses he’s received throughout the campaign.
Courage in the face of lawlessness
Mayoral candidate Brad Lander was cuffed and detained by ICE agents after asking to see a warrant for people who were detained after an immigration hearing. Video from the city comptroller’s press secretary @chloecbristow. She says he’s still being held in 26 Federal Plaza.
At this dangerous moment in history, status quo politics isn’t good enough. We need new leadership that is prepared to stand up to powerful corporate interests & fight for the working class. @ZohranKMamdani is providing that vision. He is the best choice for NYC mayor.
As for so many across this country, @BernieSanders has been the single most influential political figure in my life. As Mayor, I will strive to live up to his example by fighting for the working class every day and hopefully make Brooklyn’s own proud.
If you voted for me, vote for @ZohranKMamdani 🙏
I was at the poll site on 102nd & Amsterdam (UWS-Morningside Heights) from 9-11am. Spoke to 40+ voters. At first, a couple “Silent” Cuomo voters, but then dozens of Mamdani-Lander ballots, and vice versa. Zohran will need big numbers there (AD69) to win. I think that’s in play.
