The justifications for not enforcing immigration law are becoming increasingly bizarre.
Nightmare scenario: this man was detained for months just because they couldn’t find an interpreter for his court hearing.
This goes for those of you on all sides of the "here's what schools should do" arguments. We still do live in a democracy, as convoluted and dysfunctional as it may be. Taxpayers and parents, among others, are major interests groups with real influence
I would argue that education reform's real failure is they don't realize that the average *parent* and the average *taxpayer* have to support reform. Has there ever been a successful public vote on a reform agenda item? (Asking seriously, not rhetorically).
Did IQs suddenly drop? Hiatus is a normal thing.
BREAKING: The View will be taking a hiatus and will not be filming anymore episodes in the meantime.
This is dumb. People complain about boomers because they’re jealous. It’s totally fine to criticize boomers but you should at least acknowledge that they’ve played the game better than anyone. Millennials are Boomers 2 and we will inherit the earth.
Gen X stays winning as the least-thought-about generation
RIP HH brother I loved your work in the gawker trial
Anyone who's doing an MBA with the expectation of gaining hard skills is an idiot. They might pick some skills up accidentally, like accounting or DCF, but that's absolutely not the purpose of the degree. It's a finishing school.
Incredibly damning article about 1 of the Top 3 MBA Programs in the country. I’ll try to get some key excerpts here but I would suggest reading the whole article.
I’m surprised and slightly alarmed that Gawker people don’t look back on this and say yeah that was 100% on us
No, not *that* Jane Russell.
I’m a bit discombobulated by the judge’s tolerance of the nincompoopery on show from Jane Russell…
Solution: More immigration!
82% of all new tech jobs this year have gone to foreigners. American kids are being replaced by their cheaper counterparts from other nations. This is not sustainable and must stop immediately.
Does NRO ever keep a female intern?
My final piece from my summer at @NRO.
I'm not a big fan of pretending test admission schools are "the nation's finest high schools" much less "educating the intellectually gifted", although of course not a big fan of "diversity"...oh, hell, here's my whole spiel. x.com/Ed_Realist/sta…
How to destroy the nation's finest high schools for educating the intellectually gifted: Keep exactly the same teachers and curriculum, but ease the admissions requirements. Immediately, classroom discussion degrades to accommodate students who misunderstand what the teachers…
Unless grades are (correctly) regarded as a proxy for racial admission, this is pointless.
“Columbia shall maintain merit-based admissions policies. Columbia may not, by any means, unlawfully preference applicants based on race, color, or national origin in admissions throughout its programs. No proxy for racial admission will be implemented or maintained. Columbia may…
Random TV events I'll never forget: 1)1984 and 2004 800 men's freestyle relay 2) The Catch by Dwight Clark 3) Jennifer Holiday, 1982 Tonys 4) "I am Locutus of Borg" 5) Robin Williams as Mork on Happy Days 6) WKRPs Turkeys Away 7) Newhart finale
No kid remembers their best day in front of the TV.
"Funding is ephemeral. Legislation is lasting." True, but amnesty is forever. Good report on internecine debate among restrictionists on whether to explore deal to trade "a partial amnesty for millions of resident illegals in exchange for trimming the legalized inflow of…
Immigration reform activists are hitting NumbersUSA for cooperating on an amnesty discussion with pro-migration groups amid Trump's mandate. It's a 'discussion document', says NumbersUSA. It's bad strategy, say reformers. bit.ly/3H2vqnX
One of my favourite little details is that “Star Trek” includes that distinctively lighting in part because NBC was owned by RCA, a company that made colour television sets, and so was encouraged to add colour where it could on otherwise grey sets.
Something i will forever love about Star Trek is the use of color within the set and shots.. its honestly one of the many reasons i even watch the series as a whole 🥹
Today in 1977, Jim Rockford wonders if $200 a day plus expenses is really enough for all the bullshit he’s dealing with.
I'm almost always right about this crap, just sayin' "Trafficking" as a legal construct is a relatively recent invention of over-zealous prosecutors, pandering politicians, and lazy sensationalized media, jointly fomenting sex hysteria and moral panic -- as American as Apple Pie
Matt Gaetz deserves compensation of some sort for being dragged through the mud and presumed guilty of preying on underage girls in yet another bogus “sex trafficking” investigation -- an area of the law that increasingly seems predicated on overhyped prosecutor/media bullshit
I think this is the most I've seen a movie give a shit about its own marketing in the last like decade. Good for them, honestly
Comedies make us smile, laugh, and occasionally groan. But the future of comedy movies needs your help. Do your part and get tickets for #NakedGun today - only in theatres August 1.
I would revise it from "bottom quintile" to "those in the bottom quintile of IQ who could work but don't." I'm not saying our problems would go away if we somehow forced them to work, but that "out of the labor force" and IQ<88 captures the great majority of people that…
This is absolutely true.
