We have a new preprint! Mapping and analyzing nearly 5,000 full mitogenomes across Africa First major update on mtDNA distribution since Salas et al 2002 "The making of the African mtDNA landscape" Congrats to @ImkeLankheet and thanks to all collaborators! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Really enjoyed reading that Journal Club piece by @NicoleLake, interesting perspectives on a seminal, transformative paper 🤓 nature.com/articles/s4157…
Our study titled "Ancient genomes from the Yellow River Bend reveal long-distance population interactions between the Central Plains, Steppe, and southern China" has been released officially online at @CellReports on July 22! A joint work based aDNA lab at Fudan University!
🚨New preprint is out! How do genetic effects on complex traits change with age? In this work, we compare different approaches to obtain age-varying genetic effects, and show how design and modeling choices can impact the conclusions we draw. shorturl.at/17snd A thread 🧵
Quite interesting but Out of Africa did not happen after 50ka: it happened >> 70ka. Hence a simple solution to what happened to early Out of Africa humans: some simply survived. As for the 70ka niche expansion in Africa: back migration into Africa. 1/2 nature.com/articles/s4158…

If you use Kraken for profiling microbial/environmental/ancient metagenomic data, check this preprint where I benchmark filtering strategies of Kraken output on simulated microbial and environmental metagenomic samples, and provide recommendations for optimal filtering thresholds
Today, Yale celebrated a historic milestone with the public installation of President Maurie McInnis as the university’s 24th president. Beginning with a vibrant procession through campus and culminating inside Woolsey Hall, the extended Yale community came together to reflect…

The archetype of the scientist who sacrifices everything might’ve been romantic 50 years ago when there weren’t alternative high paying jobs. If we won’t make science FUN, reduce bureaucracy, and make it easier to secure funding and publish, few will stay in academia.
Friends! The science that we love is under threat. World-wide there're forces seeking to make it corporate-like, focused on deliverables or even the enemy of society. Take a stand celebrate science & music! #theconferencetoendallconferences Register now: woodstock.img.cas.cz
