In which I read that @Nigel_Farage is “a man for whom a working day of 4.30 a.m. to 11 p.m. is not unusual.” Those were Mrs Thatcher's hours. It's interesting that people mistake his laid-backness for laziness.

Having seen tonight's #C4News report on this, it's clear to me that the BMA strike action is just wrong. I remember once saying that if Frank Field stood in my constituency, he'd have had my vote. So would @wesstreeting. If the BMA can't do business with him, they are misguided.
A message to all NHS staff ahead of BMA strike action.
I think @FraserNelson has this absolutely right.
Ed Vaizey: Reform are effectively getting into bed with a far right group.. incredibly dangerous? Fraser Nelson(Times): "I'm going to defend Nigel Farage & Reform... Farage is not the face of extremism in Britain... he's a buffer between us & the genuine extremists..."
This is genuinely horrifying
America's new Hitler Youth. Well done everybody.
Well, there's no fee, and people might sign up out of curiosity, just to see how this “new kind of political party” differs from other new kinds of political party, and how unlike other new kinds of political it isn't (remember Change UK?). Four years is an eternity in politics.
In just over 5 hours, more than 80,000 people have signed up to help build a new kind of political party. We believe in democracy — and the establishment are running scared. We’re offering people something very precious: hope. Sign up at yourparty.uk.
This is wrong. For an @edfringe venue to cancel Jewish artists is anti-Semitic, whatever “safety concerns” are adduced. The venue should report threats to the police, and staff should be told that Jewish artists are welcome, and if any feel unsafe they can get a job elsewhere.

It's unwise for MPs to ascribe their personal political morality to a whole constituency. Aspana Begum got 18,535 votes at the last General Election, out of an electorate 84,116. Her vote was down from 38,660 in 2019. She speaks for a diminishing minority in Poplar and Limehouse.
In Poplar and Limehouse, we are clear: refugees are welcome here. In the face of relentless demonisation and targeting, we continue to stand with migrants for their rights to safety and dignity. It’s the far-right and their hateful ideology that are not welcome here.
Highly concerning, to say the least. It is utterly misguided and quite mind-boggling. Given Labour's support for the suspension of the UK/HK extradition treaty in 2020, what, exactly, has changed? How have human rights improved? What freedom is greater? What justice is assured?
Government plans to reintroduce extradition cooperation with Hong Kong are highly concerning. Why does the Government deem this reasonable when freedom of expression, political freedom and the rule of law in Hong Kong have been crushed by The National Security Law and the…
“Scotch whiskey”😔
Sir Keir Starmer and Narendra Modi have just signed a major trade deal between Britain and India that's been three years in the making. The agreement will cut tariffs on products like Scotch whiskey and English gin sent to India, and Indian food and spices shipped to the UK.…
So the Corbyn/Sultana party is called ‘Your Party’. Right. We're used to political parties not being or doing what they say on the tin: Conservatives don't conserve; Labour sidelines labour; LibDems are illiberal/undemocratic. I mean, clearly, Your Party isn't yours (or mine).
It's time for a new kind of political party - one that belongs to you. Sign up at yourparty.uk.
I don't usually call for resignations, but when the Chief Constable of Essex Police told the media “It’s not for me to comment and to try to criticise or indeed to examine that operation”, he seemed not to know his job. If it's not his, then whose? His position is untenable.
He tied himself up in knots over the special treatment they gave to one side I now don't trust a Chief Constable at a major force - how can any of us? His performance was shambolic, confused and Marxist/ identity politics word salad He has to go.
The King holds out for an ‘Anglican’ expression of Islam, and it certainly exists. But the liberal strand of Islam is viewed as heretical by their more ‘robust’ co-religionists. The King understands this (and, to be fair, he reconsidered his “Defender of Faith” assertion).
King Charles has long embraced a relativist theology that sees Islam, Christianity & Judaism as spiritual cousins. But this is rejected by both Christianity and Islam in their orthodox forms. So where does that leave us? conservativewoman.co.uk/christianity-a…
‘OMNIBVS Christi fidelibus ad quos hoc praesens scriptum peruenerit’ It's even more pleasant that the election hasn't succumbed to multifaith pap or an assertion of secularity.
It is pleasant to see that the election is still ratified in letters patent in Latin, though the VC did not Latinise her name! x.com/oxonpolis/stat…
Excellent news.🥂 Chris Smith was an outstanding and successful Culture Secretary, and I'm sure will be a leading proponent of academic freedom as Chancellor of Cambridge University. (But my word, it was a close thing..)
I’m delighted that Chris Smith has been elected chancellor of @Cambridge_Uni. It’s a personal victory for him, of course, but also crucially for free speech and academic freedom which he advocated so strongly in his campaign.
It's a fine piece by @Will___lloyd, and it's the first I've seen anyone talk of “Badenochism”. May I just make it very clear that this is absolutely not a thing, and I reiterate my previous iterations that not every political leader merits an ‘–ism’, however hard they try.
This has caused a HUGE stir in Conservative circles.
Would the police ever bus-in right-wing campaigners – some masked with the Cross of St George? Would they facilitate anti-migrant protestors to confront pro-migrant protestors? If not, why not? How do they decide which counter-protests are righteous, and which are not?
This story confirms what witnesses said. The police bussed left-wing campaigners - some apparently masked - to the Bell Hotel. Thus facilitating a confrontation with locals angry about an alleged sex attack on a child by a migrant. We need answers. 🧵 telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/2…

A house inside a walnut
I'm slightly puzzled by this. Why do the police actively assist counter-protesters to confront local residents concerned about an influx of economic migrants, but they impede and arrest counter-protestors to pro-Gaza marches for carrying a sign saying ‘Hamas is terrorist’?
It is odd that the “counter-protesters” always seem to be allowed to wear masks and carry professionally designed and matching placards. Being ferried to and from the station by police? That’s down right suspicious.
